Racing tips: Moss can boss sprint at Doncaster

MOSS GILL (2.10) lost little in defeat when third to brilliant Battaash at York and is fancied to land the Listed Scarborough Stakes over the minimum trip at Doncaster.

Dakota Gold bounced back to form in the Beverley Bullet and chased home speedball Starman at York on Sunday. Johnny Murtagh’s Irish raider Urban Beat is no slouch but may come up a little short against the two Yorkshire sprinters.

MUBTASIMAH (3.10) gets the nod in an open renewal of the Sceptre Stakes, a Group 3 contest for fillies over seven furlongs. A three-time winner last season, she soon got back to winning ways at Newbury in June. William Haggas has given Mubtasimah a 67-day break on the back of a slightly disappointing fourth to Miss Celestial at Chelmsford City. She is probably better back on turf.

Althiqa had under a length to spare over Cloak Of Spirits when they filled the places in a Group 3 at Deauville (heavy) and is a potent threat if repeating the form of her close third to One Master at Goodwood.

STRAIT OF MORMUZ (3.45) has sneaked in at the foot of the weights in the 1m 2f handicap. Jedd O’Keeffe’s three-year-old won on good to soft at Haydock in June and was only just denied by Lawn Ranger at Chester last time. Caradoc has cost his backers a packet this summer but a return to form would see him go close. Derevo didn’t really build on his fourth to Maydanny at Glorious Goodwood when only sixth at York next time, but this is a bit easier.

OMNIVEGA (1.55) was pulled out of an engagement at Newcastle to wait for the 1m 3f handicap at Kempton. A three-time all-weather winner already this season, Omnivego’s bid for a four-timer came unstuck at Ascot. His fourth to Look Closely was still a fine effort and David Simcock’s gelding is preferred to Win O’Clock, a nine lengths scorer on suitable soft ground at Sandown. A 6lb penalty makes things tougher but he is clearly in great nick. Thomas Greatrex takes off 3lb.

ITKAANN (2.25) catches the eye in the mile handicap. The Owen Burrows-trained colt was always travelling strongly at Salisbury and had only to be pushed out to beat favourite Cloud Drift. Up 7lb, he can take care of Lingfield maiden winners Raeed and Dark Spectre.
