FORTY matches are now complete at the World Championships and the field of 32 will soon become 16 over the weekend and into the first session post Christmas.
With an exciting day ahead, six players will progress today on a best of seven format so a race to four from 1pm today.
Gerwyn Price v Ian White
- Head-to-head: White leads 6-1
Gerwyn Price is an improving talent on the big stage but faces the veteran and meet his match in Ian White.
White managed to produce a run to the last 16 last year, and he will fancy making a similar run at the very minimum again this year.
Both looked well practised in round one and both their previous TV meetings went to a final leg indicating a hold of throw is paramount to winning this game. White should throw fewer stray darts we would think and the 180 count may surprise us come the conclusion of this outcome.
Vincent van der Voort v Steve Beaton
- Head to Head: Beaton leads 9-6
The pair produced two smooth efforts in round one beating Dave Chisnall in what can be described as a shock and Irishman Willie O’Connor respectively.
Van der Voort who has been absent from our screens for a while due to back injuries seem to have not troubled him in his opener. Beaton generally produces a steady Eddie performance but will need a little extra over the longer format. The match is for the taking here and over 5.5 sets would be a play here if forced to play a hand.
Michael van Gerwen v James Wilson
- Head to Head: MVG leads 4-0
Michael van Gerwen was surprised by Christian Kist’s early resilience in taking a set and this is what Wilson could also do. Looking at the 4-0 head to Head maybe an omen for some backers to take evens for a 4-0 win. However MVG has let the implied handicap down one too many times and Wilson to win a set is evens with Paddy Power only requires MVG to get off slowly and give Wilson one or two opportunities.
