THERE might not be much of an appetite for an international match at Hampden Park tonight but Steve Clarke's side must pick up the pieces of another failed World Cup qualification attempt and get their Nations League campaign off to a winning start against the 92nd ranked team in the globe, Armenia.
This competition might represent Scotland's best chance of reaching Euro 2024 with three places up for grabs via this route. The Scots are in a group where they should be aiming for top spot, so it's imperative that they pick up three points this evening otherwise they'll be up against it from the off.
The Armenians took their chance against a lacklustre Ireland to start Group B1 with a win. It's hard to know how much to read to in to that result given the sorry state of the Irish team at the moment but it was still a huge deal for the Armenians who were skelped 9-0 by Norway on their previous outing. That was the second time they'd been hit for nine in the space of three years after Italy thumped them 9-1 in 2019.
Scotland should win at 4/11 but the way results have been going in these Nations League games it might be better to steer clear of the outright markets and take a look at corners instead. Despite going down 1-0 Ireland won the corner count 6-2 and had the better of most of the match stats. Scotland should expect to enjoy most of the possession at Hampden and look a good bet to beat the -3 corner handicap at 11/10.
The aforementioned Republic of Ireland host a crestfallen Ukraine who of course ultimately lost out on Europe's final World Cup spot on Sunday. Ireland need to be opposed at 11/8. The Ukrainians can be backed on the Asian Handicap 0.0, +0.5 at just over 4/5 (1.830).

Surely there’s no way Ireland lose at home tonight lads against (what should be) a rotated Ukraine side. I know they were mediocre against Armenia but we don’t become a terrible side overnight and I think the heat was a major factor. I think he picked the wrong players as well, Robinson had no football played. Plus we tend to struggle against the sides that defend deep against us. Ireland DNB for me.
Having said that yours is probably a safer bet Fitzy. I just definitely wouldn’t be keen on the Ukraine win. It’s possible but it’s the Aviva, and we play better against better sides.

From what I can see Algeria are missing a few players but they should still be winning this game with relative ease I think. Surprised to see 10/11 available on them to score 2+. Maybe because of their poor performance in ACON?! They tend to cruise though qualifiers though and score a few in the process. They won opening game 4 days ago 2-0 against Uganda, I would assume roughly the same team will play and it still looks a strong lineup for this level

As an outsider got to say I was disappointed with Scotland v Ukraine.
I looked at those 2 and Wales and I honestly feared Scotland more than Ukraine as I see them player for player better than us.
What I was surprised at was how quickly Scotland turned to the long ball once it was clear Ukraine were running rings round them.
I still think player for player Scotland are better than Wales as regards what teams the Scots play for against the Welsh lads, some who haven’t strung any number of games together this season, Ramsay and bale prime examples but still produce for Wales.
The intensity that Scotland try to play for 90 minutes can only take you so far, sometimes you need to play through teams
If Scotland find a couple of ball playing midfielders to run the game and a reliable striker they will qualify for future tournaments.
Don’t grow in trees though do they.
Personally I’ve never rated Steve Clarke as a manager, as a no 2 years ago yes.
Saying that who’d have though Robert page would be leading Wales to the world cup 2 years ago.
I don’t know who would be a good fit for Scotland but Scottish fans should get behind whoever is in charge through thick and thin and who knows what lies at the end of the rainbow ?.
