Best US Open betting tips for day 9
For those looking to make a bet on the US Open today, here are the best two tips we see on Tuesday:
Zverev vs Fritz – five sets total @ 2/1
Alexander Zverev, the No. 4 seed, takes on top-ranked American Taylor Fritz in what is set to be a blockbuster quarter-final on Tuesday at the US Open.
Both will feel that if they win this match, the path to making a Grand Slam final is wide open, with no big name player looming in the semi-finals thanks to Novak Djokovic’s early exit.
Looking at the head-to-head between Zverev and Fritz, it is as close as can be. The German has his nose in front, but only just, leading 5-4 across their nine meetings. However, Fritz won their most recent match, less than two months ago at Wimbledon. That clash went all the way to a fifth set, and we’re predicting that this one will be similar.
In fact, if you look at the three times these two have met at Grand Slams, it has been very close each time. Twice it has gone to a fifth set, and once it was a fourth set tiebreak.
While Zverev is the slightly better player overall this year, Fritz has the benefit of the crowd behind him. He’s been playing brilliant tennis in New York. However, the pressure of uncharted territory in Grand Slams is another factor – if one gets a lead, we can see either choking and giving it up.
Either way, we see this match going the distance. Instead of flipping a coin for the winner, take the handy 2/1 odds of this being five sets.
Tiafoe to beat Dimitrov @ 3/2
Home star Frances Tiafoe takes on Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the day’s other quarter-final. This is another match that could go either way, and depends on the level that each man brings on the day.
We expect it will be Tiafoe who brings the higher level. The American is 19-4 at the US Open since 2020, and consistently produces excellent tennis in front of a packed out Arthur Ashe Stadium. He has been to the US Open semi-finals before, so is no stranger to the kind of pressure that a quarter-final brings.
While Dimitrov is in good nick too, Tiafoe has been the form player overall in the North American hard court swing. We don’t see that ending today. Back Tiafoe to get it done – and for extra value, take him in four sets, as he has been prone to the occasional lapse in concentration, dropping a set in three of his four matches so far this tournament.
