What about the two showmen who have been lighting up New York so far, Alexei Popyrin and Frances Tiafoe – who prevails there?
The players you want to put your money on are those who deeply care about every match, and those are the players we will be backing here. Read on for our US Open betting tips on day seven.
Best US Open betting tips for day 7
Both Tiafoe and Popyrin have been playing lights-out tennis this past week as they upset seeds to make the round of 16. The second match we’ll take features a home player going for an upset against a top seed so keep reading to find out all about that betting tip.
Tiafoe to beat Popyrin @ 1/1
Brace yourselves tennis fans, this is perhaps the most exciting clash of the US Open is coming today. Tiafoe is known for performing in New York, having made the semi-finals here previously and knocking out Ben Shelton in an excellent third-round clash two days ago.
Popyrin, on the other hand, is having a brilliant run the past month. First, he won a maiden Masters 1000 title in Montreal, and now, he’s knocked out defending champion Novak Djokovic in the third round of the US Open.
We’re backing Tiafoe on this one, as we believe the crowd will give the American an edge. Popyrin has been a crowd favourite recently, and loves to feed off the support he gets from the stands. There will be none of that on Sunday, however, as Tiafoe is the home favourite and will be getting all the applause.
Coming down off the kind of high that beating Djokovic at a slam generates is not easy. Tiafoe is the more mature player, and we expect he will get through this one.
Zverev vs Nakashima over 38.5 games @ 1/1
This bet is mostly based on the eye test and everything that we’ve seen so far. Nakashima has been absolutely brilliant so far at the event, winning three very impressive matches. Zverev has been pretty good himself.
What makes the over so compelling is that Zverev is known to drop sets frequently at Grand Slams. Nakashima has proven himself to be good enough to contend in this match, so taking a set surely shouldn’t be a problem.
If we look at the matches they've played in the past, they have been pretty close. There is no reason why Nakashima can’t keep this one close, especially with how well his serve has been firing this week.
Overall, it’s judged as a value bet based on everything we’ve seen from them. Either one winning in straight sets would be a massive surprise, so take the over because it’s very likely to come through.
