US Open 2024 Women's Singles Odds and Favourites

Ever since Serena Williams retired, we've had extremely interesting Grand Slams on the women's side of tennis. The final major of the year promises to be no different, so let's take a look at US Open 2024 women’s singles odds and favourites.

The US Open has been fascinating in recent years, with several different champions. Naomi Osaka, for a while, looked like a player who would be winning the US Open regularly, but in 2022, it was Iga Swiatek. Last year, it was US native Coco Gauff, and this year remains to be seen.

From Aryna Sabalenka's recent form, it seems that she's the one likely to get it done after missing out on the final last year. However, let's take a closer look at some of the bigger US Open favourites and their odds of winning the trophy.

US Open 2024 Women's Singles Odds to Win

Based on the latest US Open odds from bookmaker Betfred, here’s how the women’s singles favourites are shaping up in New York in 2024:

  • Aryna Sabalenka @ 11/4
  • Iga Swiatek @ 7/2
  • Elena Rybakina @ 8/1
  • Coco Gauff @ 17/2
  • Jessica Pegula @ 14/1
  • Naomi Osaka @ 20/1
  • Qinwen Zheng @ 22/1
  • Mirra Andreeva @ 22/1

Aryna Sabalenka will enter the US Open as the trophy favourite for several reasons, most notably her form and having played in the final last year. She's never won a Grand Slam outside of Australia, and this is her best chance to do so.

Swiatek, on the other hand, won't arrive at the event in the best form, but having won this event in 2022 with the light tennis balls that are returning this year makes her certainly a player to watch.

These two are well ahead of the rest of the pack, with Elena Rybakina well behind in the third line of betting. The Kazakh’s odds stem from her ability to perform well on hard courts, with a big serve and strong baseline game.

Just behind her is defending champion Coco Gauff. Despite her 2023 performance, Gauff’s current form only gets her the fourth favourite spot in the US Open women’s odds.

The most likely American to do some damage at the US Open is actually Jessica Pegula. The veteran has been in red-hot form, bagging a trophy in Toronto and making the final in Cincinnati. She's also been very good in New York over the years.

Behind Pegula, odds lengthen even further. Osaka is rated by most tennis bookies, though you have to feel it is mostly based on nostalgia rather than form. Her tennis lately has been pretty solid, but the odds give her a better chance than they really are because she's not playing on a Grand Slam winning level and hasn't for years.

Other longer odds contenders include Qinwen Zheng and Mirra Andreeva. The Olympic champion showed in Paris how strong she could be. That was on clay, though, and this surface makes her more vulnerable even with her superb serving and strong baseline play. Overall, she has a decent chance but is highly unlikely to win.

For Andreeva, she has been performing very solidly this year, though winning this would be a major step up. Still, after a maiden Grand Slam semi-final earlier this year, it's not impossible for the teenage phenom.

US Open 2024 Women's Singles Favourites to Win

Here’s a closer look at our favourites to win the US Open women’s singles event in 2024.

Aryna Sabalenka

What makes the case for Sabalenka so compelling is her historically strong performances on hard courts and the recent form. She's been playing for a couple of weeks now and looks completely free of the shoulder injury that plagued her.

The serving in Cincinnati was spectacular, and if she finds it again in New York, she's going to be very hard to break. The court speed will allow her to use her power to wreak havoc on most other players, as very few have the pace on the serve to put any kind of pressure on her.

We saw last year how devastating she can be in New York. Expect her to be even more devastating this year, especially after her recent confidence-boosting run in Cincinnati.

Iga Swiatek

As a former champion, Iga Swiatek will always get the benefit of the doubt in New York. Her form has been consistent enough that even after some lacklustre showings lately, the Polish player won't be doubted.

She's done well on hard courts in the past, though she can be beaten on quicker ones. One thing that's going to be a major boost for her is the lighter tennis balls, which will be used this year after being discontinued in 2022 following her US Open win.

She tends to do better with them as her control is overall better, and that's going to be a huge boost for her US Open chances.

Elena Rybakina

According to the US Open 2024 women’s singles odds, Rybakina is the third favourite at the event, even though her track record in New York hasn't been the best. She never advanced past the third round, and winning the event would be a major jump. So why is she favoured?

It simply comes down to her excellent court fit. She has a superb serve and hits as well as anybody, making her the ideal prototype of a player who should, in theory, win this event.

Execution matters, and she hasn't been able to do that in New York so far, but that can change. You can't just learn talent, of which she has plenty, but you can learn to execute better.

Coco Gauff

As the defending champion, Gauff might be expected to do well in New York, but she's only the fourth favourite. It's not because people doubt that she can do it; it's mostly because she has failed to really show it lately.

Her performances in recent weeks haven't been good, and she's looked worse this year than last year. With the way some of these other players have been peaking lately, it's kind of hard seeing her pull through.

There is always a chance, as last year's event proved–where she surprised many people by going all the way–but how often do runs like that happen? Not often.

Jessica Pegula

Finally, we have to mention Jessica Pegula because she's also an American who will enjoy the crowd support. Unlike Gauff, she is coming into the event in great form. If any American were to make a surprise run, it would be her.

It wouldn't be that surprising, as she's played really well here in the past and has looked superb recently, going 9-1 in her last 10 matches.
