The Women’s World Cup gets underway this morning as co-hosts New Zealand and Australia start the party Down Under.
With the Kiwis kicking off at 8 am, I’m steering clear of their game with Norway as most punters will still be having a kip or eating their breakfast.
But Australia’s opener starts at 11 am and it will be interesting to see how they fare against the Republic of Ireland.
Some pundits have tipped the Aussies as dark horses for the tournament with home advantage and they’re as big as 12/1 with SkyBet to get their hands on the trophy.
They should certainly top Group B, with most firms pricing that outcome at 4/7, and Australia are 3/10 hot favourites for a win in their opener, with Ireland as big as 10/1.
Chelsea’s Sam Kerr will lead the line and she will be key to the Matildas’ hopes. The striker is 21/20 with BetVictor for anytime scorer against Ireland and that looks good value.
There are also Europa Conference League qualifiers tonight, with plenty of Welsh and Irish sides in action.
Dundalk let me down last week when they drew a blank in Gibraltar against the Magpies but should get the job done back at home.
Backing the Irish side to be winning at half-time and full-time pays evens at BoyleSports and that looks terrific value despite last week’s stalemate.
Derry City find themselves in the same situation after a 0-0 draw against Torshavn in the Faroes last week.
With the minnows tough to break down, most goals could come in the second half and that pays 6/5 with William Hill.
Crusaders upset the odds to draw 2-2 with Haka in Finland last week and will fancy their chances of finishing the job at home.
After four goals in the first leg, I’m on over 2.5 strikes in the return and it pays a best 21/20 at VBet.
Nothing stands out in the other three ties involving Irish sides but Welsh outfit Connah's Quay Nomads need to go for it against Akureyri.
The Icelandic team lead 2-0 from the first leg and with Connah’s Quay going on the attack I fancy over 2.5 goals at 11/10 (BetVictor).
Following Wednesday’s winner in South Korea, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees Greg head to Iceland once more, and he likes the possibility of goals in the capital.
It’s the final major on the golfing calendar as The Caddy looks to The 151st Open Championship at Royal Liverpool, Hoylake, Merseyside, England.
Super Singles
- Sam Kerr to score (21/20, BetVictor)
- Dundalk HT-FT (evs, BoyleSports)

Rizzel likes a pair of 9/2 chances for Thursday's night racing at Leopardstown and Epsom.

The women’s World Cup is here! Had lots of joy in devious women’s tournaments with penalties and own goals. Will be doubling up on pens and own goals in each of the games today. Also goals (over o.5, 1.5, 2.5 first half goals in each game).
Good luck all!
*previous!
Hi all, MJT what are you on today mate
🇮🇸 Leiknir Reykjavik v Throttur 🇮🇸
🇮🇸 Afturelding Women v Grotta Women 🇮🇸
▪️Over 2.5 Match Goals Double (1.02/1, william hill)
Cashed out for full stake and put bet on with bet365 with odds drifting to 1.09/1.
46/1 landed with that pen miss on the first WWC game. A pen in the Aus game and the double win will be a great start 🤞🏽
Does anyone know which bookies are offering for team goals in a season??
Sam Kerr is injured for the first two games of the women’s world cup … for those considering the suggested tips of the site…

A shocking performance from Shnaider who wasn’t even trying so can only assume she was injured.
Also adding:

2 units Bautista-Agut -1.5 games 1.89 Pinnacle

On 3 now.

Ireland no corners at half time. Finished 7.
🙄
Wohooo pen awarded. Double (46/1 and 5/1) so 230/1 lands. Time for more pens too!
Well done mate . What was your bet ?
Hi CS, it was doubles with Aus to score, Aus to miss, Ireland to score, Ireland to miss, NZ to score, NZ to miss etc etc. all with William Hill under their Penalties/Cards markets.
velez sarsfield reserves
3pm
to win both halves
6/4
top versus 4rth bottom
stuffed sarsfield down to 10 men
I wasn’t going to have any further plays today as it’s not been a good start but I have just seen some information on the match between Rune and Gasquet. Rune lost in the Hopman cup as big favourite (1.08) just yesterday 6-4 6-3 to Riedl. He plays again today and according to reports he has back issues but will play as it is for his country and there are no replacements.
1.5 units Gasquet over 9.5 games 1.92 Unibet
1 unit Gasquet to beat Rune 2.70 Unibet
0.5 unit Gasquet to win 2-0 4.5 Bet365
Connahs quay
Dila Gori
Btts double 2/1
Good luck
Lost
Some ridiculous results today will pretty much wipe out all of the 12 unit profit from this week. Wawrinka 5-2 in the 1st set is about to lose. Rublev -4.5 games loses by 1 game.
Apologies if anyone has followed today. Been one to forget and the biggest loss so far in over 2 months.
Final play of the day:
2 units Thompson – Mannarino over 22.5 games 1.95 Pinnacle
Superb recovery with your last two match picks, MJT – must admit it was starting to look quite scary until those helped reduced the losses.
As you said, some very strange results – possibly down to injuries or just the “other guy” having a better day than the favourite?
With hindsight, those 4 leg “favourites” ACCAs are probably worth avoiding. Even though they looked solid on paper, it just takes one player having a rough day to bust the thing (especially given the overall returns were around evens)
Onwards & upwards to a better day tomorrow, and appreciate all the hard work you put in mate 👍😉
Ooops! They were 3 leg ACCAs, not 4.
Yeah it was a very strange day indeed Chris. Thankfully Gasquet pulled it out of the bag and then one of the accumulators won alongside the overs in the Thompson v Mannarino match.
All in all a very small loss today in the end which I will take given the very unexpected results.
Also means still over +10 units up for the week so far.
And thanks for the kind words Chris.
Fingers crossed back in profit tomorrow but the selections will be much less given how today unfolded.
Whoops! I owe you a huge apology MJT.
For some reason, I had the 4 leg ACCA down incorrectly as a loser on my list (think it was because the Rublev -4.5 game single lost, so I wrote off the ACCA too)
That makes today’s result look considerably better, and I’m well chuffed given the wierd results 👍
PS Taking the above into account, please ignore earlier comments on ACCAs (as you may have gathered, I know Jack Diddley about tennis 🤣)
No worries Chris and yes the results towards the end of the day certainly helped to reduce the loses today big time!
BTTS treble tonight….
Viking Reykjavik v Riga 4/5
Crusaders v FC Haka 4/5
St Pats v Dudelange 4/6
9/2 treble
Best of luck all
Ten Hag names Bruno Fernandez as the new Man Utd 👩✈️, the same guy that wanted to be subbed whilst getting thrashed 7-0 v Liverpool. The gift that keeps on giving 🤣🤣🤣
PaddyPower are giving a free £5 bet builder ACCA for the England (W) v Haiti (W) game (must be 4+ legs)
If anyone has a remote clue about girlie-ball (especially how to choose 4 legs with a remote chance of winning!) please post your thoughts.
Incidentally, PaddyPower are quoting England winning @ 1.01 and over 2.5 goals at 1.08 !!!!! 🤣
After a shocking start to the day thankfully the Gasquet match paid dividends as he won 6-2 6-3.
The day ends with a small overall loss just over 1 unit which after the start and the very weird results today seems like a win in a weird sort of way.
Will post the full results tomorrow morning.
Well done all winners.
Yep, as I mentioned above I incorrectly had the 4 leg ACCA down as a loser – but it wasn’t.
All in all, very happy with today’s results even thought it was a tiny loss 👍😄
Wow these Europe League Qualifications are trash….
🇮🇸 Leiknir Reykjavik v Throttur 🇮🇸
🇮🇸 Afturelding Women v Grotta Women 🇮🇸
▪️Over 2.5 Match Goals Double (1.09/1, bet365)
✅️✅️
3-2 to Leiknir and 3-1 to the Afturelding Women 👍
Another good show Jamesy. Well done mate
Cheers kf
