It's been 10 years since Dundee United graced the European stage and the fans at Tannadice will be desperate to make the most of tonight's clash with AZ Alkmaar.
The Terrors enjoyed their European heyday in the 80's when they were notoriously denied a place in the 1984 European Cup Final by an AS Roma team who's director later admitted to bribing referees.
Indeed, they were regular faces in the latter stages of European competition back then, reaching two UEFA Cup quarter finals in '82 & '83 before reaching the final in '87 where they lost out to IFK Gothenburg over two legs, after eliminating a mighty Barcelona side that included Mark Hughes and Gary Lineker.
But that's all a very long time ago now and it'll be a long time again until the Arabs are dining at Europe's top tables but there's plenty of reasons for optimism on Tayside at the moment. Tam Courts was a relative rookie manager when he was appointed last Summer but he led the newly-promoted United to fourth place in the Premiership. He's subsequently moved on and been replaced by the well thought of Jack Ross who brings good experience to the role from his time at St Mirren, Sunderland and Hibernian.
Ross has moved to secure the impressive Dylan Levitt from Manchester United and has added qaulity and experience in the likes of Stephen Fletcher and Jamie McGrath. Tonight's opponents will be a serious test over two legs and the bookies make United 13/2 (888Sport) shots to qualify and as big as 4/1 (Paddy Power) to take a first leg lead to the Netherlands next week.
However the Dutch side reportedly don't have their troubles to seek. Midfielder Fredrik Midtsjo has signed for Galatasaray, new signings Vanheudsen, Jens Odggaard and Bazoer are all ruled out as are Karlsson and Sugawara. That offers a glimmer of hope for the Terrors and in front of a rousing home crowd this should be a cracker.
You can get 11/10 on the home side avoiding defeat and if United can call upon the spirit of the 80's that could be worth a punt.
Cluj suffered a heartbreaking exit from the Champions League a few weeks and face Belarusian champions Shakhtyor Soligorsk. But the match will be played in neutral and behind closed doors so that must surely make the 10/11 on the Romanians worth taking on.
Viking were impressive winners over Slavia Prague in the last round and their reward is a tie with Motherwell's conqueror's Sligo Rovers. This one might be a step too far for the Irishmen but Viking are priced up short at 9/20. As are Molde who host Hungarians, Kisvarda. The Eliteserien leaders are in a terific vein of form and doubling them up with Viking for a Norwegian Double pays 5/6 at SBK.
Elsewhere tonight Lillestrom, who are keeping pace with Molde at the top of Eliteserien, look a big price at home to Antwerp who finished a distant 4th in Belgium last season and bottom of their Europa League group. 21/10 also looks worth a small interest in the home side.

🇳🇴Skeid v Ranheim🇳🇴
🇳🇴Brann v Start🇳🇴
🔘Bet: Skeid v Ranheim over 2.5 goals / Brann win + over 1.5 match goals
📈6/5 or 2.12
📚(bet365)
💰NAP ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Brann have to be bet on, in some capacity, every single game. They’re so supreme we have to keep cashing in until they eventually win the league. They’re back at home to an average Start team and I fully expect them to win and score a couple of goals – minimum. They’ve won 15 of their last 16 games and have scored 2+ goals in all of those 15 wins. The only game they didn’t win was a 1-1 draw to second placed Stabæk. It would be a monumental shock if Brann didn’t beat a mid table Start team who they defeated 0-2,away, 5 games ago.
Then we move on to Skeid v Ranheim. This is a game that absolutely screams of goals. Skeid might be down the bottom, but at home they really go for it. In Skeid’s 9 home games this season, 8 have gone o2.5 goals, they’ve kept zero clean sheets, scored in 8/9 games – even scoring 2 or more in 6/9 games. They haven’t only scored against fodder either, they’ve scored 2 against Brann, Stabæk, Sogndal and Raufoss. All teams in the top 7 (Brann and Stabæk are 1st and 2nd). They’ll be targeting a Ranheim team who do leak goals on their travels. I’m backing Skeid to get on the scoresheet again, scoring at least 1.
Ranheim games see so many goals. They’ve gone o2.5 in all of their last 12 games – amazing stats. In those 12 games they’ve scored 2 or more in every single game, highlighting their supreme fire power. Away from home they’ve seen o2.5 goals in all of their last 5 games. In those games they’ve scored 2 in every game and have also conceded in every game (1-2,3-2,2-2,1-2,1-2). They’ve scored in all 8 away games and the only clean sheet they’ve kept on the road was at hapless Stjoerdals-Blink. I fully expect them to contribute at least 2 again which should see us over the 2.5 goals line. The stats look fantastic for this one, nicely priced at odds against.

🇳🇴Brann v Start🇳🇴
🔘Bet: over 0.5 match goals and over 3.5 match corners each half.
📈20/23 or 1.87
📚(bet365)
💰NB ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’ve been trying to bet on Brann as much as possible but odds are so short on them it’s hard to find a single. But I’ve noticed over the last few weeks that Brann see goals and corners in both halves. When I dug a little deeper, I saw that 1+ match goal and 4+ match corners in the first and second half had a superb success rate.
In the 17 leagues games Brann have been involved in, this bet has landed in 14 of them giving it an 82% success rate. Bet on this every week and you’ll see plenty of long term profit – simple as that.
Brann at home:
🔘 1+ match goal in both halves in 7/8 games (88%)
🔘 4+ match corners both halves 6/8 games (75%)
🔘 Total success ratio = 82%
The only times Brann games didn’t see 4+ corners each half was at home to Kongsvinger where they were 1 short in the first half and against Mjondalen where they were too busy scoring 6 second half goals to get any second half corners!
The only time Brann games didn’t see 1+ goals each half was waaaaaay back in the very first game of the season where Brann conceded in the 50th and scored in the 53rd minute.
Brann are so dominant that they often take care of the goals and corners all by themselves. Just under evens for a bet with an 82% success rate presents superb value in my opinion.
Good luck all 👍🏻
Shamrock Rovers ( Home Win) 1/1
Dundee Utd v AZ (BTTS) 11/10
3.2/1 with bet365
Europa Conference shenanagins from me tonight and always like to see the Icelandic sides at home in these ties!
They may not be the best to watch but they hold their own well against much more skilled opposition.
A combination of this style and the huge investment in ‘small pitch’ football from an early age together transpire to bring about a preponderence of high corner counts in games – tonight I think there’ll be a good few and fancy the Turkish to hit their corner lines set by the bookies..

Hi hull ,been following u for a while now and your strike rate is awesome 👏.Just wondering how u manage your stake regarding your star rating u give on your picks?
Hi Skelrm – the star rating is simply a ‘confidence rating’…whatever you choose to stake should be guided by it. If that makes sense?

🇬🇹🇬🇹🇬🇹 LONGSHOT 🇬🇹🇬🇹🇬🇹
Coban Imperial V Achuapa FC
22:30
Guatemalan Liga Nacional
achuapa to score 7-4 (UNIBET)
This looks over priced to me which may mean bookies know some inside information.
They finished just 1 point apart in the season that finished in may.
This season coban have won both games and conceded in both.
Achuapa have a 1-0 win and a 1-0 defeat so far.
*** In the last year achuapa won all 3 head to heads 3-0 1-0 home and 1-0 away ***
In all there have been 12 head to heads and achuapa scored in 10 of them .
This is priced as a very longshot but unless there is something iffy going on I’d price the away goal around 11-10 6-5 maybe

Despite being favourites fortelaza look the dodgy part of this bet.
They lost their 2 away games so far this season 1-0
Last season which ended in may they scored in 13 of their last 14 away games **.
As for hulia they have seen BTTS in all 4 games this season.
Their 4 games have seen 17 goals (8-9)
8 previous head to heads here seen hulia score in 7 of them and Lost none of them !!.
Hulia were shit last season but are showing signs of better scoring form so far.
