Guest tennis columnist David Jack served up a cracker with his first men's tennis treble on the US Open first-round matches. He tipped wins for Kevin Anderson, Janko Tipsarevic and Taylor Dent and it paid £33 to a tenner stake with William Hill. And we know plenty of you backed it with your comments – so DJ is back with another accer he believes is ace.
US OPEN TIPS SEPTEMBER 1, 2
I'm going for Anderson again as part of a fourfold in his second-round clash with Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil tomorrow.
Bookies are struggling to split these two and each man is priced at 5-6 with William Hill but boylesports are a best evens on Ando.
However, I'm siding with Anderson to maintain his New York state of mind as he has enjoyed a better run on the hardcourts going into the US Open.
The South African reached the last 16 at the Masters 1000 in Toronto last month before succumbing to world No.1 Rafael Nadal and in July enjoyed a run to the semi-finals in Atlanta where he eventually lost to John Isner.
Juan Ignacio Chela is the slight favourite (8-11, bodog, Skybet) going into his clash with Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei tonight and I reckon the Argentine veteran will edge their encounter.
In-form Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker (1-4, bodog, Ladbrokes) should have few difficulties reaching round three in his clash with Ivan Dodig of Croatia tomorrow and to complete the line I'm plumping for a Croatian victory – Marin Cilic, (2-7 Paddy Power) to see off Japan's Kei Nishikori also tomorrow.
- Anderson
- Chela
- De Bakker
- Cilic
Meanwhile, Andy Murray launches his campaign tonight against world No.72 Luckas Lacko and is a best 1-50 with the likes of bodog, Skybet and William Hill to progress.
This should be a comfortable win for the Scot but it wouldn't be too surprising if he dropped a set. Murray is prone to lapses and more than once this season has been beaten 6-0 or 6-1 only to bounce straight back.
Murray is 1-4 with William Hill to win in straight sets, 4-1 for 3-1 and 10-1 to take a five-setter. Lacko to win pays 20-1 at totesport
Meanwhile, following Roger Federer's wonder shot William Hill offer 4-1 he hits another straight winner from between his legs at this tournament.
