football spread betting tips

The Premier League is heating up nicely as we reach the business end of the season with the title race now very much alive after Liverpool suffered back-to-back away draws over the course of the past ten days.

Those results mean that Arsenal have the chance to potentially end this weekend just five points behind the league leaders with a game in hand if they can beat West Ham at the Emirates Stadium and Man City can do them a favour by downing Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.

Elsewhere, the teams at the bottom will have been buoyed by Leicester's 4-0 defeat to Brentford on Friday night. It means that Ipswich and Wolves both have a chance to move away from the Foxes this weekend but both clubs face tricky tests.

Ahead of another big weekend of action, check out our five spread betting tips below.

Winning margin: Toffees to capitalise on a stick situation

The early kick-off on Saturday is Everton vs Man Utd and by our reckoning, the bookies have got this one all wrong. The sell price of 0 on the winning margin effectively means that the bookies believe Man Utd are more likely to win this one than Everton which is difficult to fathom.

Not only have the Red Devils been abject for the entire season, but Everton have really turned a corner under David Moyes and would give just about anyone a game at the moment. They are unbeaten in their last five Premier League matches (four wins and one draw).

Everton have enjoyed some big wins over Manchester United at Goodison Park over the last decade, including a 4-0 rout in 2019. A repeat here would return big profits.

Total goals: 1-0 to the Arsenal?

On Saturday afternoon, it's Arsenal vs West Ham at the Emirates Stadium in a match that is suddenly extremely significant for the hosts. Liverpool dropping points in recent weeks has re-opened the Premier League title door but with injuries to important forwards, Arsenal are going to have to be clever if they are to make anything of this chance.

With central midfielder, Mikel Merino, expected to start up front, don't expect Arsenal to put five past West Ham like they did earlier in the season. They are more than likely going to lean on their water-tight defence that has conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League this season and look to win the match by the odd goal.

West Ham are perhaps the perfect opponents this weekend as the Hammers have been toothless in front of goal recently. Graham Potter's men have scored just two goals across their last four Premier League matches.

Shirt numbers: A high-scoring match with low-scoring numbers

The Saturday evening kick-off this weekend sees Aston Villa take on Chelsea at Villa Park and goals should be expected given that 11 have gone in across the last three meetings between the two clubs.

For this market, the number of goals isn't overly important, but rather, the players who are going to get them. Cole Palmer, Chelsea's number 20 and their top goalscorer, has gone five games without a goal in the Premier League, so he is due to strike this weekend.

If he can, then we'll be almost halfway there to the shirt numbers buy price of 55. Other players who could help us smash through that magic number are Jacob Ramsey who wears the number 41 shirt for Aston Villa and Morgan Rogers who wears the number 27.

Scabbled shirts: Backing Alexander the Great

Two of the Premier League's highest goalscorers will go head-to-head on Sunday when Newcastle take on Nottingham Forest at St James' Park. As it happens, both of their names contain letters which accumulate decent scores on a Scrabble board which makes the target of 70 attainable.

Chris Wood, who is on 18 league goals for the season, will earn us 18 points per goal on Sunday while Alexander Isak, who is one goal further back, will earn us 25 points per goal.

Bookings: A friendly heavyweight tussle at the Etihad

The words ‘friendly' and ‘heavyweight' don't usually go together in a sentence but that's the best way to describe Man City vs Liverpool. They have been the best two teams in England for nearly a decade now, but matches between the two rarely bubble over.

The sell price of 46 on booking points for this fixture is incredibly appealing, especially as Man City aren't really playing for anything. None of the previous five league matches between the two teams have reached this number of booking points.
