SlipsTips shares a player-based selection ahead of PSG and Arsenal’s Champions League semi-final second leg on Wednesday night.
PSG vs Arsenal (Wednesday, 20:00)
Paris-Saint Germain and Arsenal will conclude their Champions League semi-final tie at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night.
PSG have put themselves in pole position to punch their ticket to the final after earning a 1-0 win at the Emirates last midweek.
The bookmakers’ odds suggest that Luis Enrique’s side will see the job through this week, with the French giants even-money (1/1) favourites with Boylesports.
However, given that the Parisians don’t necessarily have to win this game to progress to the final, I’m instead going to highlight a player-based selection that stands out at the odds on offer.
The player in question is PSG defender Marquinhos, who has been priced up at 10/11 on PaddyPower to commit a minimum of one foul on Wednesday night.
The Brazilian ace has been a fairly frequent offender in this season’s Champions League, committing an average of 0.79 fouls per 90.
However, a deeper delve into the data will show that Marquinhos’ fouls per 90 average has been on the rise as the tournament heads towards its conclusion.
In fact, the PSG captain has committed a minimum of one foul in six of his last seven outings in Europe’s premier club competition.
That seven-game sequence includes last week’s first leg with Arsenal, with Marquinhos committing one foul during that contest.
It’s also worth noting that the veteran defender has overstepped the mark in four of PSG’s six Champions League home games this season, including each of their last two.
With Marquinhos expected to be in a direct battle with Mikel Merino on Wednesday night, there is plenty of scope for that foul trend to continue.
The Gunners makeshift striker has drawn a sizable 1.48 fouls per game across both the Champions League and Premier League this season.
