SlipsTips examines the Bet Builder market ahead of St Mirren’s clash with Rangers in the Scottish Premiership on Boxing Day.
St Mirren vs Rangers (Boxing Day, 17:45)
The final fixture in the Scottish Premiership on Boxing Day will see St Mirren do battle with Rangers.
A pair of last-gasp wins away at both St Johnstone and Ross County have strengthened the Saints’ position inside the top-six of the Scottish top-flight table.
As for Rangers, they bounced back from their Scottish League Cup Hampden heartbreak against Old Firm rivals Celtic by edging out Dundee 1-0 at Ibrox ahead of Christmas.
That victory moved Philippe Clement’s side up into second place in the table ahead of this week’s short trip to Paisley.
Over 2 St Mirren Corners
A minimum of three corners should be within range for St Mirren during this clash. Stephen Robinson's side are averaging 4.11 corners per-game in the Scottish top-flight this term. However, it's worth pointing out that figure increases to 5.11 when the Buddies are going about their business at their Paisley base. In fact, the Saints have hit six or more corners in each of their last four Scottish Premiership home games.
Rangers, on the other hand, are giving up an average of 4.12 corners per-90 in the Scottish Premiership this season. The Light Blues conceded no fewer than eight flag-kicks during their last road game against lowly Ross County, not to mention they have had to defend three or more corners during recent league games with the likes of St Johnstone, Kilmarnock and Dundee.
On top of all that, St Mirren managed to cover the proposed 3+ corner line during October’s reverse fixture at Ibrox between the pair.
Over 1 St Mirren Card
For the second leg of the Bet Builder double, I’m going with St Mirren to receive two more cards during this contest. Robinson’s hosts have been one of the most ill-disciplined teams in the Scottish Premiership this season so far. The Saints are averaging 2.83 yellow cards per-game, collecting multiple bookings in all but one of their 18 top-flight tussles this term to date. Furthermore, the Paisley outfit have already picked up four red cards on league duty this term, three of which have arrived across their last four matches.
Thus, there is plenty of scope for a couple of St Mirren cards when they come up against a Rangers team that have shown marked signs of improvement over the last month or so. The Ibrox side are drawing an average of 2.38 cards per-game from their Scottish Premiership opponents this season, with seven of their last eight challengers in the top-flight picking up two or more bookings, one of which was latest foes St Mirren.
