SlipsTips is back to share two selections from the Scottish Championship on Saturday, with Partick Thistle's clash with Cove Rangers taking centre-stage.
Partick Thistle vs Cove Rangers (Saturday, 15:00)
Partick Thistle will be looking to make it four league wins on the spin when they face Cove Rangers in the Scottish Championship at Firhill on Saturday.
Following a mixed start to their league campaign, Ian McCall’s men have clicked into top gear in recent weeks, having triumphed in each of their last four matches across all competitions.
Cove Rangers by contrast are still acclimatising to the step up in quality of the Scottish Championship, having lost four of their opening six games of the season, a return that sees them residing in the relegation playoff spot.
As such, Partick Thistle head into their latest fixtures as 4/5 (Betway) favourites, and I’m more than happy to back the home team to prevail at that price.
As already mentioned, Ian McCall’s hosts are flying at the moment and they justified my faith at 10/11 in the draw no bet market with a well-deserved 2-0 win at Arbroath a fortnight ago.
That victory came off the back of league wins over both Inverness and Raith Rovers and this is likely to be a lesser challenge when you consider that Cove Rangers are really struggling right now.
While Cove's' surge to reach the second tier has been based on remarkable feat of consistency, it has been a pretty underwhelming start to the campaign for the newly-promoted Toonsers.
Jim McIntyre’s men have lost four of their last five league fixtures, shipping no fewer than 10 goals across that sequence.
That defensive frailty, coupled with the fact that Partick Thistle are the divisions’ top scorers, doesn’t bode well ahead of what will be Cove’s toughest test of the campaign to date.
With all this in mind, backing Partick to pick up another three points here holds obvious appeal at 4/5 with Betway.
Given that this fixture pits the Scottish Championship's joint-worst defensive record against the league's most potent attack, I’ll also back the home side to score over goal at 4/5 (Bet 365).
The Jags have struck twice or more in each of their last four league games, while Cove have conceded at least two goals across the same four-game sample.
