SlipsTips shares a Bet Builder ahead of Aberdeen’s clash with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
Aberdeen vs Celtic (Sunday, 12:30)
Two teams that made contrasting starts to the Scottish Premiership season square off on Sunday afternoon, as Aberdeen play host to Celtic.
Jimmy Thelin’s hosts came away empty-handed from their opening league game of the season, falling to a 2-0 defeat away at Hearts on Monday night.
As for Celtic, they kicked off their Scottish Premiership title defence with a narrow 1-0 win over St Mirren last Sunday.
Celtic Double Chance
While I was tempted to side with a Celtic victory on Sunday, I’ll instead opt for a touch of insurance by backing the Bhoys on the Double Chance. Brendan Rodgers’ side failed to defeat Aberdeen in two of the six meetings between the pair last term, the most recent of which was last season’s Scottish Cup final.
What’s more, Celtic were far from convincing when labouring their way to a 1-0 win over St Mirren last Sunday. That being said, Aberdeen have taken top honours from just five of their last 28 Scottish Premiership matches, so Celtic look well placed to come out of Pittodrie with a point at the very least.
Over 4 Celtic Corners
For the second leg of the Bet Builder, I’ll include Celtic to earn a minimum of five corners on Sunday afternoon. Rodgers’ side has long had a reputation as a team that earns corners by the bucket-load. In fact, Celtic were averaging a staggering 8.76 flag-kicks per game in last season's Scottish Premiership.
The Hoops showed no signs of relenting on the corner front in their curtain-raiser with St Mirren last Sunday, earning no fewer than 12 corners.
On top of all that, Celtic covered the 5+ corner line on each of their two visits to Pittodrie last season, hitting 10 and 6 corners in each of those respective contests.
Over 1 Aberdeen Card
I’ll wrap up the Bet Builder by backing Aberdeen to collect two or more cards. It may come as a surprise to learn that the Dons were ranked as the second dirtiest side in the Scottish top-flight last term, receiving an average of 2.37 yellow cards per game.
Thelin’s team were shown three yellow cards in each of their two home games with Celtic last season, not to mention they also received a red card in the second of those two fixtures. It's also worth noting that Aberdeen tackled their way into the referee's notebook twice during Monday night’s aforementioned 2-0 loss away at Hearts.
Therefore, that trend should continue when they take on a Celtic side that were drawing a league-high average of 2.21 bookings from their opponents in last season’s Scottish top-flight.
