Battling it out for a semi-final spot at the U21 European Championships, Germany and Italy square off at the MOL Arena on Sunday night.
Germany stamped their ticket to the last-eight in emphatic fashion, banking maximum points from each of their three Group B assignments.
As for Italy, they placed second in Group A, finishing as runners-up but level on points with a Spain side that were among the pre-tournament favourites.
However, the bookmakers’ odds suggest that Italy’s journey will come to an end on Sunday night, with Germany general 5/6 favourites with most firms.
While the Germans are worthy odds-on shots, a slightly bigger price to consider is the 10/11 (PaddyPower) for them to score two or more goals on Sunday night.
Germany were one of the standout teams from an attacking perspective during the group stage, netting a joint-high nine goals across their three matches.
In fact, Antonio Di Salvo’s side struck at least twice in each of their three pool fixtures, hitting three and four goals against Slovenia and the Czech Republic respectively.
What’s more, and perhaps even more impressively, Germany managed to fire in two goals when defeating current European champions England on matchday three.
While Italy have constructed their path to the knockout round on the back of a solid defensive unit, their 1-1 draw with Spain earlier this week showed that they are not bulletproof at the back either.
It's also worth noting that the Little Blues failed to silence their opponents in three of their final six matches during the qualification stages for this year's U21 showpiece.
On top of all that, Germany have scored two or more goals in each of their previous two meetings with Italy on this stage, winning 2-1 and 4-2 on those occasions.
So with all that in mind, backing Germany Under 21’s to deliver Over 1.5 Team Goals on Sunday night looks too big to ignore at a shade below even-money.
