SlipsTips examines the Bet Builder market ahead of Portugal and Spain’s Nations League final showdown on Sunday night.
Portugal vs Spain (Sunday, 19:45)
Spain will look to become the first side to successfully defend the Nations League trophy when they take on Portugal in Sunday night’s final.
Luis de la Fuente’s side managed to stave off a comeback from France on Thursday night to claim a barnstorming 5-4 semi final success, while 24 hours prior to that Portugal came from behind to defeat Germany 2-1.
I’ve already penned a match preview on Sunday night's showpiece and I’m now going to propose a three-legged Bet Builder.
Lamine Yamal 1+ Shot on Target
For the first instalment of the Bet Builder, I’ll go with Lamine Yamal to register a minimum of one shot on target. The teenage superstar inspired his country to victory on Thursday night, scoring two of Spain’s five goals against France. That means Yamal has now hit the target once or more in eight of his last nine starts for Spain.
The 17-year-old sensation was also on penalty kick duty last time out, and that only adds to the appeal of siding with him to work the Portuguese goalkeeper at least once on Sunday night.
Over 3.5 Spain Corners
I’m also happy to back Spain to win four or more corner kicks on Sunday night. Luis de la Fuente’s side earned exactly four flag-kicks against France on Thursday night. A deeper dig shows that La Roja have covered the 4+ corner line in 11 of their last 12 matches across all competitions, including eight of their nine Nations League assignments en route to the final.
As for Portugal, they have conceded a minimum of four corners in seven of their nine Nations League outings over the last nine months or so, including a combined total of 15 across the two legs of their quarter-final tie with Denmark earlier this year.
Over 2.5 Cards
Given what’s at stake, as well as there being no love lost between these two nations, a minimum of three match cards looks well within range. It would be fair to say that both semi-final ties were somewhat fiery affairs, with Portugal and Germany’s clash featuring six bookings, while Spain and France’s showdown generated a combined total of seven yellow cards. It’s also worth noting that both meetings between the pair during the last edition of the Nations League produced five and eight match cards respectively.
On top of all that, referee Sandro Scharer was averaging north of 3.5 cards per 90 across all competitions during the 2024-25 domestic season, further fuelling this selection as the third and final leg of the Bet Builder.
