Bruno Fernandes has been one of the few shining lights in what has been an otherwise hugely disappointing season for Manchester United. Given Fernandes’ knack for trying his luck as well as him being on penalty kick and set piece duty, I’m more than happy to back the Portuguese ace to register at least one on-target effort on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils skipper has struck 19 times across all competitions this season, with seven of those goals coming in the Europa League. That goal return has coincided with Fernandes averaging 1.06 shots on target per 90 when on continental duty this season. Look for that trend to continue against a Tottenham team that are giving up an average of 5.36 shots on target per game in this season’s Europa League.
Manuel Ugarte to Commit 1+ Foul
For the second leg of the Bet Builder, I’m keen to include Manuel Ugarte to commit a minimum of one foul. The fiery Manchester midfielder has been a regular on the referee’s radar since making the move to Old Trafford last summer. In fact, Ugarte has averaged 1.95 fouls per game in this season’s Europa League, falling foul of the referee at least once in seven of the eight matches that he has started to date.
What’s more, Ugarte committed three fouls during his one and only appearance against Tottenham in the Premier League this season, collecting a yellow card along the way. The fact that was one of 15 yellow cards that Ugarte has been shown this season further highlights his habit for overstepping the mark.
Over 3 Tottenham Corners
Given their knack for clocking up high corner counts, I’ll conclude the Bet Builder by backing Tottenham to earn a minimum of four corner kicks during Wednesday night’s Europa League final. No team has earned more corners than Spurs (92) in Europe’s secondary club competition this season.
Similarly, Ange Postecoglou’s side have been reliable operators on the corner front in the Premier League this season, averaging 6.51 flag-kicks per 90. It’s also worth noting that when Tottenham and Man United last crossed paths in the top flight-back in February, the capital club racked up no fewer than 10 corners.
