SlipsTips shares a Bet Builder double ahead of Spain Women and Switzerland Women’s quarter-final clash at the European Championships on Friday night.
Spain Women vs Switzerland Women (Friday, 20:00)
The third of this week’s four quarter-final ties at the Women’s European Championships will see Spain square off with Switzerland on Friday night.
Pre-tournament favourites Spain cruised to top spot in Group B, winning all three of their matches, scoring 14 goals in the process.
As for host nation Switzerland, they placed second in Group A after netting a dramatic late equaliser to claim a 1-1 draw with Finland last time out.
Spain Win
Friday night’s quarter-final clash looks like a mismatch on paper, making a Spanish success the obvious first selection for the Bet Builder. As already alluded to, Spain put in a trio of near-perfect displays during the group stage, triumphing in each of their three matches, racking up a combined total of 14 strikes for good measure.
Montserrat Tome’s team brilliantly dismantled Belgium 6-2 before putting Portugal to the sword with a resounding 5-0 success on matchday two. The reigning world champions then went on to flex their muscles in their final Group B game by defeating Italy 3-1.
The comprehensive nature of those victories does not bode well for a Switzerland side that laboured their way to four points against Iceland and Finland during the pool phase. It’s also worth noting that Pia Sundhage’s side came up short in their Group A opener with Norway, and they now face an upgrade on that challenge when they do battle with Spain in Bern.
Esther Gonzalez To Score Anytime
For the second and final component of the Bet Builder, I’m more than happy to go with Esther Gonzalez to get on the scoresheet. No player scored more goals than the Spanish striker (4) during the group stage of the competition. In fact, Gonzalez made the net bulge in each of Spain’s three group games, including a brace against Portugal. That group stage haul means the 32-year-old forward now boasts a remarkable return of 36 goals across her 53 appearances for her country.
Now up against a Switzerland side that failed to keep a clean sheet in two of their three Group A games, Gonzalez will view this as an ideal opportunity to add to her tally in the race for the Euro 2025 Golden Boot.
