SlipsTips shares a Bet Builder ahead of Hearts’ Scottish League Cup clash with Dumbarton on Wednesday night.
Hearts vs Dumbarton (Wednesday, 19:45)
Seeking to sew up top spot in Scottish League Cup Group E, Hearts will welcome Dumbarton to Tynecastle on Wednesday night.
The Jambos have been the most impressive team across the opening three rounds of group stage action, winning each of their three matches so far.
As for Dumbarton, they would need a minor miracle to qualify for the round of 16 following Saturday’s 4-0 loss against Dunfermline.
Hearts Half-Time/Full Time
Hearts have been winning at half-time before going onto claim victory in two of their three Group E outings to date, and they should repeat the trick against fourth tier outfit Dumbarton. Derek McInnes' men came in at the interval two goals in front against Hamilton last midweek and they then went one better by being three ahead at Stirling last time out.
A home game with Dumbarton represents a more straightforward challenge than previous assignments, so the capital club should cruise to a fourth win in succession.
The Sons trailed Dunfermline by two goals at half-time on Saturday and repeat on Wednesday night is entirely plausible given the calibre of opposition that they will be coming up against.
Over 2 Hearts Goals
Hearts have been scoring freely in the group phase of this season’s Scottish League Cup and they should continue in that vein on Wednesday night. Ahead of Tuesday night’s action, the Jam Tarts were the leading goalscorers in this season’s competition, racking up 12 goals across their first three group games. McInnes' side have made the net bulge four times in each of their previous three Group E contests, so I’m more than happy to side with three or more strikes from the hosts for the second leg of the Bet Builder.
As already alluded to, Dumbarton had four goals put past them by Dunfermline on Saturday, and they now face a serious step up in class in the capital this week.
BTTS No
For the final instalment of the Bet Builder, I’m backing Hearts to keep a clean sheet. That is something that McInnes' men managed to achieve away from home against both Hamilton and Stirling Albion.
Now up against a Dumbarton side that are unlikely to cause many problems, Hearts look well placed to secure a third shutout in succession. Stevie Farrell’s side looked toothless in attack when failing to score against Dunfermline on Saturday, mustering up a measly three attempts on the Pars’ goal.
