IT'S the game of the day domestically in Perth this afternoon as St Johnstone host Ross County in the Betfred Cup. County are all but through but St Johnstone need 3 points here after a horror 1-0 defeat away to Montrose on Tuesday.
The Perth Saints are bigger than 6/4 in places which is a much higher than they would have been a week ago but they face a tough test against free-scoring County. Given the importance of this for the home side we should see an open game.
St Johnstone vs Ross County (KO 3pm)
Fortunately, there have been too many disappointing cup shocks following St Johnstone over the last 30 years but Tuesday night's loss was probably the worst since Stenhousemuir battered us 4-0 in 1994.
One thing with Tommy Wright's side is more often than not, after a horror performance, he usually gets a reaction and with players returning from injury we should hopefully see one today.
It's a must-win match for St Johnstone but they have been far from water-tight defensively having conceded 2 against Morton, Linfield and a goal at Montrose.
Ross County rejoin the Premiership after bouncing back straight away and they can be delighted with their league cup performances having recorded 4-0 and 4-1 wins, albeit against lower-league opposition. St Mirren, Dundee and Hibs have all struggled in this competition but County will be full of confidence and will fancy their chances here.
Think this should be an open game with both sides contributing to the goal count. Just heading up to Perth now, hopefully to see a St Johnstone win and at least 3 goals.
