Saturdays top tips 3

There's a cracker in the Scottish League Cup group stage today as Derek McInnes gets his Hearts reign underway with a visit from Dunfermline.

With Neil Lennon now in the Pars dugout, this is a clash between two of the highest-profile managers in Scottish football.

It was a surprise when former Celtic and Hibs boss Lennon pitched up in Fife last season and he succeeded in his mission to keep the Pars in the Championship.

But it would be an even bigger shock if he ruined McInnes first game in charge at Tynecastle as Hearts look to get off to a flying start after a disappointing campaign.

Heart of Midlothian vs Dunfermline top betting tips

Lennon concentrated on making Dunfermline harder to beat after taking the reins, with a succession of 1-0 wins and 0-0 draws getting them over the line.

He will now try to make them more of a threat but Hearts have a far superior squad and are 2/9 hot favourites with BoyleSports.

With the Pars struggling for goals last term and no new strikers arriving so far, the best bet today might be a Jambos win to nil at 20/21 with BoyleSports.

McInnes received a boost when his star striker Lawrence Shankland signed a new deal and the captain should grab more goals this season after being played out of position by Neil Critchley last term.

There's still no prices for player markets but combining a Hearts win with over 2.5 goals gets you to 4/5 at BoyleSports.

Dundee vs Airdrieonians

Steven Pressley is another Premiership manager looking for a debut win at home to Championship opposition as his Dundee side host Airdrieonians.

The former Dundee United defender was not a popular appointment with the Dens Park faithful so he will need a positive start to get the fans onside.

Pressley isn't helped by the fact Dundee's two best players, Lyall Cameron and Josh Mulligan, both moved on during the summer to Rangers and Hibs respectively.

Airdrie impressed in last season's group stage but then had a dreadful league campaign and only avoided the drop because Hamilton copped a massive points deduction.

Rhys McCabe's side always try to play nice football so this is a potential banana skin for the Dark Blues. Airdrie are 13/2 at BoyleSports for a shock win and a healthy 12/5 in the double chance.

But going for goals is probably a safer option and combining BTTS with over 2.5 goals looks good at 11/10 with BoyleSports.

Arbroath vs St Mirren

There's another Championship v Premiership tie at Gayfield as St Mirren take on an Arbroath side who have their tails up after winning League One last term.

These teams have been regular foes in the League Cup group stage, meeting three times in last four years. Arbroath shocked the Buddies with a 1-0 win in Paisley three years ago when Stephen Robinson had just taken charge.

But St Mirren got their revenge a year later with a 4-0 win at Gayfield and they're now one of the most settled sides in the top flight, with Robinson leading them to three successive top-six finishes.

The Buddies have been flying in their pre-season friendlies so they should be too strong for a Red Lichties side bedding in plenty of new signings.

St Mirren are 2/5 favourites with BoyleSports but backing them at -1 in the handicap takes you to a tasty 6/5. Backing the Buddies to be winning at half-time and full-time pays the same price too.

Best of the rest

Two other Premiership managers take charge for the first time today, with Stuart Kettlewell's Kilmarnock heading to Brora Rangers and Jens Berthel Askou taking Motherwell to Clyde.

The bookies reckon they will avoid embarrassing defeats, with Killie 2/11 against the Highland League outfit and Well 1/4 against League Two opposition.

I'm going to combine victories for both with wins for Hearts and St Mirren in a Premiership acca that pays 159/100 at BoyleSports
