Manchester City lost their Premier League crown last term and start the bid to win it back with a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers this evening.
I'm surprised to see most pundits writing off City for the title, given they've won four of their last five Premier Leagues and have spent big this summer.
The likes of Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Rayan Cherki should energise what looked like a tired team last term and it would be a surprise if they slipped up on day one at Molineux.
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester City top betting tips
Vitor Pereira did an excellent job at Wolves last season and comfortably saved them from relegation after taking the reins from Gary O'Neill.
But he has been frustrated in his attempts to strengthen the squad this summer and they look considerably weaker after selling Ait-Nouri to City and star man Matheus Cunha to Manchester United.
So it's no surprise to see Pep Guardiola's side as 4/9 favourites with BoyleSports, although you can boost the odds to 6/5 by backing City at -1 in the handicap.
City usually give their opponents a few sights at goal and poor defending saw them exit the Club World Cup early. So Wolves should get a few chances and striker Jorgen Strand Larsen looks good at 10/11 for a shot on target.
Aston Villa vs Newcastle United
It has been a frustrating summer for Newcastle United and it will be fascinating to see how they get on at Aston Villa today without want-away star Alexander Isak.
The Swede's decision to down tools in a bid to force a move to Liverpool has cast a dark cloud over St James' Park, with Eddie Howe yet to buy a replacement centre-forward.
Some much-needed reinforcements have started to arrive in the last week but the Magpies will probably still need to play a winger such as Anthony Gordon or Anthony Elanga as a makeshift striker.
Financial fair play rules have also hindered Aston Villa's attempts to build on two excellent seasons under Unai Emery.
Nice's Evann Guessand is the only notable arrival but Villa still have plenty of firepower and Donyell Malen has looked pretty sharp in pre-season. Doubling up a shot on target for the Dutchman with the same bet for Newcastle star Gordon pays 7/4 in a bet builder at Bet365.
These teams are pretty evenly matched so the half-time draw also appeals at 5/4 with BoyleSports.
Greenock Morton vs Aberdeen
There's the potential for a League Cup shock in Scotland today as Aberdeen head south to take on Championship side Morton.
The Dons have not made a good start to the season, suffering back-to-back 2-0 defeats against Hearts and Celtic.
The fixtures computer wasn't kind to them but what will concern fans is how poor Jimmy Thelin's side were in both of those games.
New striker Kusini Yengi looks devoid of confidence and I'd be surprised if he started again today after looking completely out of his depth in that defeat to the Hoops.
Morton's only defeat in six games this season was away to Motherwell in the League Cup group stage and they've drawn their opening two games in the Championship.
Dougie Imrie's side are always a tough nut to crack so they could be worth a punt in the double chance at 6/4 with BoyleSports.
Betting against thrills looks a safer option and under 2.5 goals is evens with the same firm.
St Johnstone vs Motherwell
There should be more goalmouth action at McDiarmid Park as Motherwell take on St Johnstone in another last-16 League Cup tie.
Both teams are unbeaten so far this season, with Saints winning six out of six and Well claiming three wins and three draws.
Simo Valakari's side are playing some lovely football and I had a punt on them at 6/4 to win the Championship this week on the basis of their wins over Partick and Raith.
New Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou also has his side playing progressive football so this game should be a good watch. Combining BTTS with over 2.5 goals looks good in this one at 23/20 with BoyleSports.
Saints winger Josh McPake has started the season in fine form, netting four times, so looks a bit overpriced for a goal at 9/2 with Unibet.
