Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into both the French Ligue 1 and the Danish Superliga and I’ve a game from each league to give us a solid looking double.
Rennes vs Lorient
🇫🇷 Ligue 1
⏰ Sunday 24th April, 12:00
Rennes will look to climb back into the Champions League places, as they host relegation-threatened Lorient at Roazhon Park. The hosts slipped down to fourth following Monaco’s win at Saint-Étienne, whilst the visitors are 15th, just four points above the relegation playoff place.
Rennes lost for the second successive match last time out, as they were defeated 2-1 away to the side directly below them in the table, Strasbourg. Prior to those two defeats, Bruno Génésio’s side were on a seven-match unbeaten run in Ligue 1, winning six of them. Rennes have W11-D1-L4 at home in Ligue 1 this season, with that record changing to W7-D0-L1 when hosting sides in the bottom half of the table. Only PSG (42) have found the back of the net on more occasions at home than Rennes in Ligue 1 (41), with Les Rouges et Noir scoring two or more in 10/16 of their home fixtures, including in each of their last six.
Lorient managed to drag themselves further away from the relegation zone last time out, as they scored on the fifth minute of stoppage time to defeat bottom side Metz 1-0. Whilst Christophe Pélissier’s have won each of their last two at home, they’ve lost each of their last two away against both Nice and PSG, conceding seven goals. In fact, no side has collected fewer points on their travels in Ligue 1 than Lorient, with Les Merlus collecting just 11 points from their opening 17 matches. Lorient have kept just four clean sheets away from home this season and only Bordeaux (47) have conceded more than the 36 Lorient have let in
Copenhagen vs Randers
🇩🇰 Superliga
⏰ Sunday 24th April, 15:00
Copenhagen will look to strengthen their position at the top of the table, as they host Randers at Parken Stadium. The hosts are currently six points clear of second-placed Midtjylland, whilst the visitors are sixth in the table.
Copenhagen bounced back from their 3-1 defeat away to Silkeborg, by defeating Brøndby 2-0 at home last time out. That result means than Jess Thorup’s side have now won nine of their last 10 in the Danish Superliga. Copenhagen have lost just once at home this season (against Midtjylland) and come into this winning each of their last five, keeping a clean sheet in each one of them. Not only are Copenhagen the top-scorers in the Danish top-flight (48), but they also posses the leagues meanest defence, conceding just 16 goals and recording 15 clean sheets.
Despite taking the lead, Randers lost for the third successive match last time out, as they were defeated 1-2 at home to Silkeborg. After winning four of their opening six fixtures away from home, Thomas Thomasberg’s side have since gone on to win just one of their last seven on their travels (W1-D3-L3), including a 3-0 defeat against their upcoming opponents. Only three of the bottom four have scored fewer goals than Randers in the league this season, with The Horses also failing to score in four of their last six away. Randers have kept just five clean sheets in their opening 26 fixtures this season, with just two of those coming on their travels.
Bet of the Day
Rennes come into this having lost each of their last two matches but I fully expect them to bounce back at home to a Lorient side who have the worst away record in Ligue 1. Only PSG have scored more goals in Ligue 1 than Rennes and given they’ve scored on multiple occasions in each of their last six at home, I fully expect Bruno Génésio’s Champions League chasing side to bag another brace against a Lorient side that’s already conceded 36 goals in their previous 17 away days.
Copenhagen come into this having won nine of their last 10 in the Danish top-flight and I expect the league leaders to collect another three points at home to a Randers side that’s lost three on the bounce. Jess Thorup’s men have won each of their last five at home without conceding and given the visitors have won just one of their last seven away, I’m happy to back the hosts to collect all three points, something they’ve done in the two previous meeting this season.
