I THOUGHT I did well with my New Year five to follow that won at 34-1.
But how about this for a win from a lucky Ladbrokes customer on Wednesday night.
He put a £2.50 accumulator on nine teams and won an incredible £272,529.60. The win breaks all previous records and ranks as the Ladbrokes' biggest payout for a multiple bet.
The mystery Berkshire-based punter's successful predictions included shock wins for Wolves and Blackburn with the jackpot being sealed when Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente netted in the 85th minute to salvage a Spanish Cup draw against Barcelona at the Nou Camp.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “We’d like to congratulate our customer for pulling off what is one of the hardest feats in betting. We expect the champagne corks are popping in Berkshire tonight as they celebrate the biggest football win of all time and raise a glass to Llorente.”
The line in full was:
- Arsenal v Man City, draw 11-4
- Aston Villa v Sunderland, away 11-4
- Blackburn v Liverpool, home 11-4
- Bolton v Wigan, draw 5-2
- Newcastle v West Ham, home 4-5
- Wolves v Chelsea, home 6-1
- Barcelona v Athletico Bilbao, draw 4-1
- Deportivo La Coruna v Cordoba, draw 4-1
- Malaga v Sevilla, away 6-4
The punter has kindly given the world his thoughts for this weekend but surely they can't all come up again.
He's trying:
- Arsenal v Leeds, draw 4-1
- Blackburn v QPR, home 4-5
- Bristol City v Sheffield Wednesday, home 10-11
- Chelsea v Ipswich, home 1-7
- Man United v Liverpool, draw 7-2
- Millwall v Birmingham, away 11-8
- Scunthorpe v Everton, away 4-7
- Sheffield United v Aston Villa, away 1-1
- Stoke v Cardiff, draw 12-5
Footnote: This guy's pretty good. From the seven FA Cup ties he predicted yesterday he got six out of seven right. That included draws at Arsenal and Stoke. Well done, sir.
This article is printed incorrectly and on majority of web sites as Sevilla beat malaga 3-0 on the 5th of January 2011.
its on the home site of malaga website as well.
so did the punter put the bet on Sevilla or not as this is very miss leading as Ladbrokes are saying malaga or home team won. the bet should of failed as the punter did not get all nine as predicted.
Dave thanks for spotting the error. The line is exactly what Ladbrokes sent out in their press release. I’ve contacted them and they simply got it wrong when they said the guy backed Malaga when he actually took Sevilla. That would have been some story if they’ve paid out £272k by mistake!
