ST MIRREN entertain FC Edinburgh on Saturday afternoon in a match-up that is essentially a Premier Sports Cup dead rubber for the hosts.
The Saints, who famously lifted the League Cup back in 2013, have been dumped out of this year's competition ahead of the final round of group stage fixtures.
Stephen Robinson's side had their fate sealed at Airdrie in midweek, on a night where the 10-man Buddies slumped to a 2-0 defeat.
That bruising setback coupled with an opening weekend loss at home to Arbroath means that St Mirren suffered a shock early exit in midweek.
FC Edinburgh, on the other hand, still have a chance to qualify for the round of 16 following a comfortable 3-0 win over Cowdenbeath on Wednesday night.
The result sees Alan Maybury's men move up to third in the group ahead of their final fixture on Saturday where they will have to emerge victorious if they are to avoid an early exit from this year's competition.
Outright Betting
Despite losing two of their opening three group games, St Mirren enter this contest as heavily fancied 1/4 favourites with Bet 365.
FC Edinburgh picked up a point in their other Group E road trip and the same outcome here can be backed at 4/1 (Bet365) while a Citizens success is trading at 10/1 (PaddyPower).
Betting Angles
It's difficult to have much faith in St Mirren at such a short price but backing both teams to score looks like an appealing alternative at 21/20 with McBookie.
While St Mirren were knocked out of the league cup in midweek, Stephen Robinson will be expecting a response and strong performance from his side before the start of the Scottish Premiership season next weekend.
Sure, the Saints have failed to strike in recent outings with Arbroath and Airdrie but they should get a bit more joy in front of goal against an FC Edinburgh side that is not exactly renowned for being watertight.
The capital clubs' solitary clean sheet during the group stage has come against lowly Cowdenbeath, having played out a 1-1 draw with Airdrie before crashing to a 3-1 loss at home to Arbroath prior to their only victory.
That being said, the visitors will have to throw caution to the wind at some point on Saturday as only a win will do if they are to pinch a place in the top-two of the table.
With that in mind, as well as the fact that Alan Maybury's men have made the net bulge in each of their three group games to date, they could well get on in the act against the hosts.
As already mentioned, St Mirren have little to pay for on Saturday and that could contribute to an open and entertaining end-of-season encounter in Paisley.
It's also worth pointing out that both teams to score has been a winning bet in two of Edinburgh's three Premier Sports Cup outings so far and that only adds to the appeal of supporting the same selection on Saturday at 21/20 (McBookie).
