NEWCASTLE UNITED will endeavour to extend their Premier League unbeaten run to nine matches when they take on Southampton at St Mary's on Sunday afternoon.
The money-rich Magpies are surveying the standings from the lofty heights of fourth place having made their best start to a top-flight season since the 2011-12 campaign.
Last time out, Eddie Howe's team tightened their grip on a top-four berth with a 2-0 victory against Aston Villa, on an afternoon where I delivered a 3/1 winner.
The Toon Army will now look to keep the Geordie juggernaut rolling by making it four successive wins when they make the long trek south to Southampton this weekend.
In stark contrast, the Saints have won just three of their 13 Premier League matches this season, which has left manager Ralph Hasenhuttl under increasing pressure.
Following last week's 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace, the south coast outfit only remain outside the Premier League relegation zone by a point.
Outright Betting
Southampton, who's only home win in the Premier League this season so far came way back in August, enter this contest as 3/1 (Bet 365) outsiders while a point apiece has been priced up at 13/5 (PaddyPower).
Newcastle, who have won five of their last six Premier League matches, arrive at St Mary's as 10/11 favourites as with Bet 365.
Betting Angles
Newcastle will have their backers at the above-mentioned price but I would rather take the even-money (PaddyPower) on the visitors scoring two or more goals on Sunday afternoon.
This fixture will pit two teams who've been in contrasting form together, so in-form Newcastle will smell blood here and they be hoping they can pile more misery on the Saints.
As already alluded to, Southampton are currently hovering above the Premier League basement zone, and that can be attributed to the fact that they are finding clean sheets hard to come by.
Ralph Hasenhuttl's rearguard have recorded a league-low one clean sheet across their opening 13 t league games of the season, with each of the six top-flight teams to pitch up at St Mary's this term making the net bulge at least once.
That doesn't bode well ahead of a visit from a high-flying Magpies side that have scored in 10 of their 13 league games of the season, notching at least once in nine of their last 11 outings.
What's more, Eddie Howe' side have scored two or more goals in four of their last six Premier League games, so with all things considered, supporting the same selection on Sunday holds plenty of appeal at even-money (PaddyPower).
Elsewhere, I'll dip into the player card market and take the 4/1 with Bet 365 for Southampton's Vojnovic Lyanco to pick up a booking.
The Brazilian defender has been cautioned in each of his last two Premier League appearances and he could have his hands full here if Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin is restored to the starting XI in the absence of the suspended Joelinton.
