Ross County vs St Mirren

, KO: 20:00 Feb 27, 2024, Victoria Park
St Mirren

ROSS COUNTY host St Mirren on Tuesday in a crunch encounter in the Scottish Premiership for different reasons for both teams.

The Staggies netted what could be a priceless late winner at the weekend in their six-pointer relegation battle with Livingston to hand them a much-needed cushion over the West Lothian side.

It was caretaker boss Don Cowie's first win and the club's first win in 12 in which they had lost ten of them and drawn twice. They are now six points clear of the bottom spot and a win against Saints would see them out of the play-off spots too.

St Mirren surely look nailed on for a top six place and have Kilmarnock in their sights who are in fourth place.

They eased past St Johnstone on Saturday which made up for a deflating loss at Livingston the previous week, which even saw manger Stephen Robinson in an unedifying bust-up with one of his own fans.

And the Paisley side are dreaming of a European spot next season for the first time since 1987.

How the Bookies view it

St Mirren are favourites here at 6/4 with 888sport. Ross County can be backed at 15/8 with Betfred and the draw is 9/4 with William Hill.

Recent head to heads

It's been a home win apiece this season for both sides. Saints won 2-0 in Paisley and County grabbed a 1-0 win in the Highlands in November.

The Staggies have won the last three meetings in Dingwall.

Players to watch

Eamonn Brophy netted a double against Livingston on Saturday and has a point to prove after an underwhelming spell at former club St Mirren. The former Scotland international is 3/1 to score with bet365.

French striker Mikael Mandron scored his third goal in five games at the weekend against St Johnstone and is on form. He is also 3/1 to score anytime with bet365.

Anything else catch the eye?

A draw wouldn't be a disaster for either side and this clash could well end up as a stalemate in the Highlands. They are both coming into this with momentum and while Saints are clearly the better side as the table shows with a points difference of 16 points, they tend to do their best work in Paisley and have a poor record in Dingwall.

There's unlikely to be a huge amount of goals in front of the cameras and it's worth taking note of St Mirren's unusual run – don't expect goals at both ends.

They have now gone 18 games in a row in all competitions without both teams scoring. The last time both teams scored in a game they were involved in was at the start of November.
