Roma will be looking to build on their first win of the season as they host Venezia in a Serie A fixture on Sunday. Venezia have found things difficult so far and should be no match for the capital club, who are expected to claim the win.
It has not been a great start to the season for Roma, who have struggled to find their best form so far, although they have only lost once across all competitions. It is just five Serie A games in and they have already switched managers with Ivan Juric replacing Daniele De Rossi at the helm.
Roma finally picked up a win in Juric’s first match in charge as they claimed a 3-0 victory over Udinese last time out in Serie A. They followed that up with a 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League on Thursday.
Venezia are also struggling this season as they are finding it tough on their return to topflight football. They have lost four of their six matches across all competitions so far and are already in the bottom three on the Serie A standings.
However, like Roma, Venezia head into Sunday’s clash off the back of their first win of the season. Eusebio Di Francesco’s men claimed a 2-0 victory over Genoa in their previous Serie A fixture with Gianluca Busio and Joel Pohjanpalo getting the goals.
How the bookies view it: Roma highly fancied
Roma have been installed as overwhelming favourites among the bookies and are priced at 2/5 by Betfred to claim the win. A victory for Venezia is valued at 7/1 by Betfred, who is also offering odds of 18/5 for a draw.
Head to head: Roma with the edge
Roma have a 4-2 edge with two draws from eight previous matches against Venezia. However, the capital club failed to secure a win the last time Venezia were in the topflight back in 2021-22, losing 3-2 in the first meeting before a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico.
Player to watch: Dovbyk finding form
A major positive for Roma in recent weeks is summer signing Artem Dovbyk, who is slowly regaining his form in front of goal. The Ukrainian striker has been on target in his last three matches across all competitions and is priced at 23/20 by Betfred to maintain his scoring run.
Having earned a shutout last time out in Serie A, Roma will be targeting a repeat on Sunday. Evan Ndicka has been a regular at the back for the capital club and can lead the team to a clean sheet at evens with Betfred.
Probable line-ups
Roma will be without Lorenzo Pellegrini, Enzo Le Fee and Alexis Saelemaekers, who are all sidelined with injury. Dovbyk and Paulo Dybala should continue in attack after both men got on the score sheet in the win over Venezia.
Venezia also have injuries of their own with Alfred Duncan and Giorgio Altare both sidelined. They are likely to stick with the team that earned their first win of the season with Pohjanpalo leading the line while Michael Svoboda should continue in defence.
Roma: Svilar, Hermoso, Ndicka, Mancini, Angelino, Paredes, Kone, Cristante, Celik, Dybala, Dovbyk
Venezia: Joronen, Idzes, Svoboda, Candela, Haps, Busio, Kofod Andersen, Ellertson, Zampano, Oristanio, Pohjanpalo
Anything else catch the eye?
Roma earned a win to nil last time out in Serie A and with Venezia failing to score in three of their last four matches, a repeat could be considered at 5/4 with Betfred. Having scored three times in the win over Venezia, a -1 handicap could be considered for the hosts at 23/10 with Betfred.
The capital club scored in both halves in their previous Serie A fixture and could be set for a similar pattern at 11/10 with Betfr
