Roma vs Lazio

, KO: 17:00 Apr 6, 2024, Stadio Olimpico
Lazio

A feisty encounter could be on the cards as Roma and Lazio square off in the Rome Derby on Saturday. Roma are technically the home side and having shown some quality in front of their fans lately, should have the upper hand over their eternal rivals.

Roma have looked a different side since the appointment of Danielle De Rossi as manager and are unbeaten in nine of their last 10 Serie A matches. They have picked up seven wins in that run and are just five points off the top four.

The capital club are coming off a disappointing 0-0 draw at Lecce in their previous Serie A fixture. They saw plenty of possession but surprisingly struggled to find their cutting edge in attack.

The good news for Roma is that the Stadio Olimpico remains a fortress as they are unbeaten in 12 of their last 13 Serie A home matches. They have picked up 10 wins in that run and triumphed 1-0 over Sassuolo in their previous fixture in front of their fans.

Lazio head into the derby off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Juventus in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg. They struggled to create much going forward and finished without a single attempt on target.

That result is consistent with Lazio’s recent erratic showings as they have lost five of their last seven matches across all competitions. However, Igor Tudor’s men have won their last two Serie A fixtures, beating Frosinone 3-2 before claiming a 1-0 victory over Juventus last time out.

Lazio are generally poor on their travels having lost three of their last four away matches, although Saturday’s clash is technically not a road fixture. They have also lost three of their last four Serie A matches at the Stadio Olimpico.

How the bookies view it

Roma have the upper hand among the bookies and are priced at 6/5 by William Hill to claim the win. A victory for Lazio is valued at 13/5 by Unibet while Coral is offering odds of 11/5 for a draw.

Head to head

Roma have a 25-22 advantage with 21 draws from 68 previous matches against Lazio. However, Lazio have won three of the last four meetings and knocked Roma out of the Coppa Italia with a 1-0 victory back in January.

Players to watch

Paulo Dybala has found his scoring touch under the new manager and will be the one to watch on Saturday. The forward has 12 Serie A goals this season and is priced at 11/4 with Paddy Power to get on the score sheet.

Mattia Zaccagni has scored in two of the last three derbies and could be worth keeping an eye on for Lazio. The forward is priced at 24/5 with Unibet to find the net on Saturday.
