Two clubs separated by only one point in the Champions League league phase table meet at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night as PSG entertain Tottenham Hotspur.
PSG began the defence of their Champions League crown by winning each of their opening three matches, but they suffered defeat last time out as they were beaten 1-2 at home to Bayern Munich.
Luis Diaz scored a brace before he was sent off on the stroke of halftime, but the Parisians could only manage a Joao Neves strike in the second half.
Luis Enrique’s did claim their third consecutive victory in Ligue 1 at the weekend, as they cruised to a 3-0 win at home to Le Havre, meaning they remain two points clear of both Marseille and Lens at the top of the Ligue 1 table.
Spurs recorded their second win of the league phase campaign last time out, as they thrashed Danish champions FC Copenhagen 4-0 despite playing the majority of the second half with 10 men.
Thomas Frank’s men remain unbeaten in this season’s Champions League (W2-D2-L0), but they were fortunate to escape both Bodo/Glimt and Monaco with a draw.
However, Spurs travel to the French capital winless in each of their last three Premier League outings, with the latest of which being a 4-1 thrashing away at North London rivals Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
How the bookies view it: PSG clear favourites
As expected, PSG have been priced up as odds-on favourites to return to winning ways in the Champions League, with bet365 quoting a home success at just 19/50.
Spurs are a massive 15/2 at bet365 to record back-to-back wins in the Champions League, whilst the draw is also unfancied at 4/1.
Head to head: Shootout success in the Super Cup for the Parisians
These two clubs played in the Super Cup back in August, with PSG winning on penalties, after their dramatic late comeback to draw 2-2 in 90 minutes.
Players to watch: Look to Joao
Joao Neves scored a hat-trick against Armenia for Portugal in the international break, and backed that up by scoring in PSG’s 3-0 win over Le Havre at the weekend.
The ex-Benfica midfielder has now scored in each of his last three appearances for the Parisians – including in their Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich – and is an appealing 7/5 to Score or Assist at bet365 on Wednesday night.
Predicted line-ups:
Luis Enrique will be without fullback Achraf Hakimi, as well as forwards Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele.
Spurs will once again be without Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Dominic Solanke, Yves Bissouma, Radu Dragusin, Koto Takai and Randal Kolo Muani through injury, whilst Mathys Tel is ineligible and Brennan Johnson is suspended.
Paris Saint-Germain: Chevalier, Zaire-Emery, Marquinhos, Zabarnyi, Mendes, Vitinha, Neves, Ruiz, Mayulu, Kvaratskhelia, Barcola
Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario, Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence, Bentancur, Palhinha, Kudus, Simons, Odobert, Richarlison
Anything else catch the eye?
Tottenham have been fortunate to draw away at both Bodo/Glimt and Monaco in the Champions League this season, and I feel as if their luck will run out in the French capital ok Wednesday evening.
Thomas Frank’s men have shipped six goals in their last two matches at home to Manchester United and away at Arsenal, and that doesn’t bode well coming up against a PSG attack that has scored 14 goals across their opening four Champions League clashes.
PSG to Win & Over 2.5 Goals has landed in 3/4 (75%) of the Parisians’ Champions League fixtures this term, and a repeat pays an appealing 4/5 at bet365.
