Motherwell vs Celtic

, KO: 12:00 Feb 25, 2024, Fir Park
Celtic

CELTIC have been slaughtered recently by their irate fans and critics as their grasp on the Premiership title looks slippier with each passing performance.

And they face a tricky Sunday lunchtime test at Motherwell.

Once seemingly untouchable, the knives have been well and truly out for Brendan Rodgers after allowing Rangers to overhaul their eight point lead at the top.

An underwhelming and frankly disgraceful January transfer market for a club with Celtic's resources meant it was always going to be a powderkeg at Parkhead and Kilmarnock's late equaliser last week was the spark it needed to erupt.

Rodgers has been charged with turning good players into bad ones and there is a nagging suspicion of an unhappy dressing room.

He can point to eight wins in their last ten games, but their fans have not been fooled by insipid performances in stark contrast to his all-action predecessor, Ange Postecoglou.

They face a Motherwell side who still harbour outside hopes of a top six finish, but aren't consistent enough to reach it in reality.

They were dumped out of the Scottish Cup at Morton before tossing away a three-goal lead at Aberdeen. However, they have won three of their last four games at home.

How the bookies view it

Celtic remain overwhelming favourites at 1/3 with McBookie.com. Motherwell can be backed at 17/2 with Paddy Powwr and the draw is 9/2 with bet365.

Recent head to heads

Motherwell have given Celtic problems this season after holding them to a draw at Parkhead and losing to a last gasp goal at Fir Park having levelled themselves in injury time in September.

But Celtic have won on their last eight trips to Fir Park and last lost there in 2013.

Players to watch

Canadian striker Theo Bair has been something of a surprise hero for Well this season having netted eight goals in his last nine games having arrived from St Johnstone with a dismal scoring record. He is 17/4 to score anytime with UniBet.

Adam Idah wasn't exactly the big name striker Celtic fans wanted last month, but he's looked decent in his outings so far and is 7/5 with William Hill's and takes the spot kicks too.

Anything else catch the eye?

Cameron Carter-Vickers could be back for the Hoops on Sunday and that could make all the difference with this Celtic team lacking leadership.

But they have twice been troubled by Well this season and the hosts can score again in what may be an eventual Celtic win at 9/5 with Boylesports. Celtic daren't slip up here.

North Macedonian midfielder Davor Zdravkovski is a terrier in the heart of the engine room and could be at the heart of the action. Back him to see yellow for the second game in a row at 11/4 with UniBet.

With Celtic's confidence lacking, it could be a slow burner here. Back time of the first goal to be after the 24th minute at 5/6 with bet365.
