Monaco host Lyon in a Ligue 1 fixture on Sunday as they continue the search for their first home win of the season. The visitors have also found things difficult on their travels this term and both teams look set to cancel each other out.
Monaco head into Sunday’s clash off the back of a 1-0 victory at Nice in their previous Ligue 1 fixture. They were made to work hard by the hosts with Breel Embolo’s effort midway through the second half proving the difference.
That was only the second Ligue 1 win of the season for Monaco, and first since the opening weekend. Both wins have also come on the road as Philippe Clement’s men are still in search of their first win at the Stade Louis II having suffered two defeats and a draw from three home matches.
Monaco warmed up for the visit of Lyon with another away win as they triumphed 1-0 at Crvena Zvezda in the Europa League on Thursday. Once again, Embolo was the difference, with his second half penalty enough to seal the win.
Lyon are coming off a defeat as they were beaten 3-1 by Lorient in a midweek rescheduled fixture. They were second best for much of the encounter with Alexandre Lacazette’s first half equaliser proving to be a mere consolation.
That was only the first defeat of the season for Lyon who have made a much better start than they did last term. They have claimed four wins from their opening six matches and will hope to put up a sustained challenge for a top four finish.
The problem for Lyon is that they have found things difficult on their travels this season. Peter Bosz’s men are winless away from home so far, playing out a 1-1 at Reims prior to the midweek defeat at Lorient.
