Lille vs Lyon

, KO: 16:15 , Stade Pierre-Mauroy
Lyon

Two teams that suffered contrasting results in Ligue last weekend will lock horns at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Sunday afternoon, as Lille host Lyon.

Bruno Genesio’s side suffered their first league defeat of the season last Saturday, crashing to a 3-0 defeat away at rivals Lens.

However, Les Dogues have since got their Europa League campaign up and running courtesy of a 2-1 win over Brann.

Lyon were also victorious when on continental duty in midweek, earning a narrow 1-0 success away at Utrecht.

After being provisionally relegated last season due to their financial situation, Paulo Fonseca’s side have won four of their opening five matches of the season, most recently edging out Angers 1-0 last weekend.

Seeking to remain on an upward curve, Lyon will look to put another three points on the board at the expense of Lille on Sunday afternoon.

How the bookies view it: Lille to land top honours

Lille – who have won each of their two home games in Ligue 1 this season – are 11/10 favourites on Boylesports.

Lyon are as big as 15/8 on Boylesports to emerge from the Stade Pierre-Mauroy with all three points while a share of the spoils has been priced up at 23/10 with the same firm.

Head to head: History against the hosts

Lyon have held the upper hand in this fixture in recent years, avoiding defeat in all bar one of the last eight meetings between the pair.

Players to watch: Olivier on-song?

Having hit two goals across his four appearances for Lille in Ligue 1 this season, Olivier Giroud looks like an eye-catching option in the to score or assist market on Sunday afternoon at even-money (1/1) on Bet365. It's also worth noting that the experienced Frenchman came off the bench to bag the winning goal against Brann on Thursday night.

After racking up 12 yellow cards across his 33 appearances for Lyon in all competitions last season, Nicolas Tagliafico looks overpriced to go into the book during this contest at 13/5 with Ladbrokes.

Predicted line-ups

As has been the case in recent weeks, Lille again look set to be without injured quartet Alexsandro, Marc-Aurele Caillard, Ousmane Toure and Thomas Meunier.

Abner Vinicius, Ernest Nuamah, Orel Mangala and Remy Descamps are all ruled out for Lyon, however Corentin Tolisso will almost certainly return to the squad after serving a suspension on Thursday night.

Lille: Ozer; Mandi, Ngoy, Mbemba, Perraud; Bentaleb, Bouaddi; Correia, Mbappe, Sahraoui; Giroud

Lyon: Greif; Maitland-Niles, Mata, Niakhate, Tagliaficor; Tessmann; Morton, Tolisso, Karabec, Fofana; Merah

Anything else catch the eye?

Lille look well worthy of support to earn five or more corners on Sunday afternoon at 4/5 on Bet365.

The hosts have been strong corner performers during the early weeks of the season, averaging seven flag kicks per 90 in Ligue 1.

A deeper dig shows that Lille have hit 10, 7, 8 and 8 corners across their last four outings in Ligue 1, so five or more on Sunday afternoon looks well within range.

What's more, the hosts hit no fewer than 11 flag kicks when seeing off Brann at home in the Europa League on Thursday night.
