Leeds United vs Southampton

, KO: 15:00 Apr 2, 2022, Elland Road
Southampton

LEEDS UNITED will be looking to make it three Premier League wins on the spin when they entertain Southampton at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

Jesse Marsch picked up his maiden win as Leeds manager following a dramatic 2-1 win over basement club Norwich City last month.

More fireworks were to follow when the Whites produced a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Wolves before the international break.

That means Leeds have opened up a seven-point buffer over the bottom-three but they will be keen to give themselves more breathing space when Southampton visit West Yorkshire this weekend.

The Saints find themselves entering their latest Premier League fixture off the back of four successive defeats across all competitions, the most recent of which was a 4-1 loss against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

What all that means though is that Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men, with nine rounds of top-flight fixtures left to play, are pretty much in no man's land, having eased any relegation fears, whilst a European berth looks out of reach.

Outright Betting

Leeds United, who are targeting three top-flight triumphs on the trot for the first time this season, head into this clash as 31/21 (SBK) favourites.

Southampton are 19/10 (SBK) outsiders to snap their four-game losing streak while a share of the spoils at Elland Road can be backed at a best 27/10 (SBK).

Betting Angles

Goals are usually on the agenda when either of these teams are involved and there is plenty of scope for a repeat here with Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 Goals appealing at 9/10 (SportNation).

Whilst Jesse Marsch steered his side to back-to-back victories ahead of the international break, the hosts continue to ship goals at an alarming rate.

In fact, Leeds still hold the unenviable tag as the leakiest defence in the division, conceding a sizeable 2.0 goals per-game on average.

As already alluded to, Southampton come into this game with nothing other than pride to play for, but that should contribute to an open and entertaining encounter at Elland Road.

The Saints, themselves have found shutouts hard to come by this season, with Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side failing to keep their sheets clean in 12 of their 14 top-flight road trips this term to date.

With this in mind, as well as the fact the fact that BTTS and Overs has clicked in eight of Southampton's 14 (57%) away games in the Premier League thus far, backing both teams to combine for three or more strikes looks worth taking on at 9/10 (SportNation).

I'll also head to the goalscorer market where both Jan Bednarek and Mohammed Salisu are perhaps worth a speculative punt at 25/1 (Betfred) and 16/1 (Bet 365) respectively to score anytime.

Given Leeds' well-documented defensive deficiencies from set pieces, coupled with James Ward-Prowse's deadly set-piece delivery and accuracy from free kicks and corners, the Saints pair look worthy of some interest at bold prices.
