Las Palmas vs Sevilla

, KO: 20:30 Aug 16, 2024, Estadio Gran Canaria
Sevilla

Las Palmas will take on Sevilla on the opening weekend of the 2024/25 La Liga season with both teams looking to get off to the best start possible at the Estadio Gran Canaria.

Both teams ended last season in the bottom half of the La Liga table and although Las Palmas will have been quite pleased that they managed to avoid relegation, Sevilla will have been desperately disappointed to have finished with just 41 points.

Ahead of kick-off on Friday night, here is our Las Palmas vs Sevilla prediction.

How the bookies view it: Sevilla backed to win on the road

Despite having a season to forget in 2023/24, the bookies have still priced them as the favourites to win their opening match of the new season. With Betfred, Sevilla are priced at 6/4 to take three points away from Las Palmas while the hosts are priced at 2/1 to get the win. The draw, which wouldn't be a bad way for either team to start the season, is priced at 21/10.

Recent head-to-head: Sevilla dominance

In many ways, Sevilla couldn't have handpicked a better opponent for their opening match of the new season given their recent record against Las Palmas. Sevilla have won their last seven matches against Las Palmas in a run that has stretches back to 2016.

Las Palmas' last victory in this fixture came back in September 2015 when they recorded a 2-0 win over Sevilla on home soil.

Players to watch: Can the new boys make their mark?

Both teams have had busy summers in terms of player incomings but neither club have spent significant sums of cash. Several free transfers have been made and at least two new strikers could be making their debuts on Friday night.

For Sevilla, Kelechi Iheanacho could be in line for his first start for the club since signing on a free transfer following his contract expiring at Leicester City. The Nigerian has huge boots to fill following the departure of last season's top goalscorer, Youssef En-Nesyri.

Another player who has spent the majority of his career in England, Oli McBurnie, could be in line for a start on Friday. Las Palmas have signed the Scotland international on a free transfer and although he has never been prolific, he could prove to be a handful for defences in La Liga.

Predicted line-ups

Both teams are set to be without three first-team players for the clash on Friday night. The hosts are without Daley Singraven, Pejino and Adnan Januzaj due to injury while Sevilla will be without Suso, Albert Lokonga and loan-signing, Saul Niguez.

Las Palmas: Cillessen – Park, Marmol, McKenna, Suarez – Rodriguez, Munoz, Campana, Fuster – McBurnie, Sandro

Sevilla: Nyland – Montiel, Bade, Nianzou, Pedrosa – Agoume, Sow, Gudelj –  Ocampos, Iheanacho, Lukebakio

Anything else catch the eye?

Only three goals were scored across the two matches that these two teams played against each other in La Liga last season. In fact, only two of the last ten matches between Las Palmas and Sevilla have seen more than two goals scored. Under 2.5 goals to be scored on Friday night is priced at 8/13 with Betfred.

This match between Las Palmas and Sevilla will be played on Aug 16, 2024 and kick off at 20:30. Check below for our tipsters best Las Palmas vs Sevilla prediction. You may also visit our dedicated betting previews section for the most up to date previews.
