NOBODY has ended the La Liga season in worse form than Las Palmas, and they will be out to end a 13-game run without a win when Deportivo Alaves come calling on the final day.
A slump like that towards the end of the campaign would normally result in relegation but García Pimienta's side are safe as they sit six points above the drop zone.
After a run of eight successive defeats, things have at least picked up a little with draws in their last two games against Real Betis and Cadiz.
But in-form Alaves will still fancy their chances in Las Palmas, having won four of their last six games. That has taken them up to 10th in the table and they will want a win on the final day to stay in the top half.
After winning promotion last year alongside Las Palmas and Granada, Luis Garcia has done an excellent job steering Alaves to mid-table back in the top flight. While Granada are dropping back down to the second tier, it's mission accomplished for both these sides with a La Liga slot in the bag for next season.
How the bookies view it: Alaves look overpriced at 2/1
Given their own good form and the wretched results of Las Palmas, I'm surprised to see Deportivo Alaves as big as 2/1 with Bet365 for the win. The home side are slight 7/5 favourites with a third successive Las Palmas draw pays 23/10.
Recent head to head: Las Palmas out to do the double
Las Palmas won 1-0 on the road against Alaves earlier in the season and that made it three games unbeaten in this fixture after both meetings last term in the second tier ended in draws.
Players to watch: Alberto's worth a shot
Alberto Moleiro scored against Real Betis in Las Palmas' last game and the 20-year-old could get another chance to impress. He's 6/1 for anytime scorer, which looks a little overpriced, and 13/8 just to have a shot on target.
Midfielder Jon Guridi has found his shooting boots for Alaves in recent weeks, with three goals in his last five outings. He's 7/1 for another goal here and a tempting 9/4 to have an effort on target.
Probable line-ups
Alaves striker Kike Garcia went off before half-time last weekend so I'd be surprised if he featured here. Las Palmas shouldn't have any fresh injury problems and will probably be along similar lines to the team that drew with Cadiz.
Las Palmas: Valles, Cardona, Marmol, Coco, Araujo, Munoz, Loiodice, Rodriguez, Park, Ramirez, Moleiro.
Alaves: Owono, Duarte, Abqar, Tenaglia, Lopez, Blanco, Guridi, Simeone, Vicente, Benavidez, Samu.
Anything else catch the eye?
Las Palmas drew 0-0 in their last outing while Deportivo Alaves ground out a 1-0 so I'd be surprised if we saw a lot of goals in this one, especially with nothing at stake. Betting against BTTS pays 19/20 and that could be worth a look.
The half-time draw is another good option with neither team likely to go all out for the win with the pressure off. That bet pays a tempting 11/10 with Bet365.
With Alaves in better form and morale it might be a smart idea backing them to be the team with most shots on target. That bet pays 5/4.
