Kilmarnock vs Ross County

, KO: 15:00 , Rugby Park
Ross County

Two clubs separated only by goal difference meet in a crucial clash at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership table as ninth-placed Kilmarnock hosts 10th-placed Ross County.

Kilmarnock suffered more away-day misery last time out, as they were thrashed 5-1 for the second time in a row, this time at champions Celtic.

Whilst that’s now 11 winless away matches (W0-D2-L9) and six defeats on the bounce, Derek McInnes’s men have done their best work on their plastic pitch, with Killie losing just three of their last 15 Premiership matches in front of their supporters, winning six of their past 10 (W6-D2-L2).

Ross County’s poor run of form continued last time out, as they fell to a 3-2 defeat in Paisley at St Mirren.

That’s now four defeats on the spin and five from their last six for County – failing to even score in four of those defeats – leaving them only six points clear of rock-bottom St Johnstone but only one ahead of Dundee, who currently occupy the relegation playoff spot.

How the bookies view it: Killie favourites

Boylesports make Kilmarnock short 8/15 favourites to continue their decent home form.

Ross County are 9/2 with the same firm to ease their relegation worries, with the draw at 11/4.

Head to head: Staggies have the upper hand

Ross County have dominated this fixture this season, winning all three of their meetings with Kilmarnock, including a 0-1 victory in Ayrshire at the turn of the year.

Players to watch: More goals for Murray?

Fraser Murray has scored four goals in his last 10 Premiership appearances for Kilmarnock – including in three of his last four at Rugby Park – and is 5/2 at BoyleSports to bag again.

Ronan Hale is County’s leading scorer with nine in the Premiership this season and ended his two-month goal drought in Paisley last time out.

Predicted line-ups:

Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes will be unable to call on Kyle Magennis or Rory McKenzie due to injury.

Ross County could be once again without the injured Ryan Leak and Aidan Denholm, whilst Noah Chilvers is out for the season with an ACL injury.

Kilmarnock: O’Hara, Mayo, Wright, Findlay, Ndaba, Kennedy, Lyons, Watson, Murray, Watkins, Wales

Ross County: Amissah, Campbell, Lopata, Wright, Brown, Randall, Kenneh, Ashworth, Samuel, White, Hale

Anything else catch the eye?

After seeing just six goals across their previous five matches, I expected a low-scoring clash in Ross County’s last match away at St Mirren but was completely wrong.

However, I’m prepared to back against goals again here, with 4/16 (80%) of Ross County’s Premiership contests on their travels this season seeing both teams fail to score – including a 0-1 win in their last trip to Ayrshire.

What's more, Killie's opening 16 home Premiership matches are averaging a league-low 2.44 goals per game, with 10 of their last 13 going Under 2.5 Goals, whilst seven of their previous 10 have seen both teams fail to get on the scoresheet.
