BOTH Kilmarnock and Partick Thistle will be targeting back-to-back wins in the Premier Sports Cup when the pair square off at Rugby Park on Wednesday night.
Derek McInnes' men turned in a professional performance as they eased to a 3-1 win at Highland League side Fraserburgh on Saturday.
That victory coupled with results elsewhere means that Killie are setting the early pace in Group B.
However, a much tougher test is to come this midweek when Partick Thistle come to town.
The Jags also got their League Cup campaign up and running last time out, with Ian McCall's side squeezing past Stenhousemuir courtesy of a 2-1 success.
Partick will have high hopes of progressing into the next round and triumphing here would go a long way to securing that task.
Outright Betting
Kilmarnock emerged victorious from their most recent meeting with Partick Thistle at this venue back in March and the same outcome this midweek can be backed at a best 8/11 (BetVictor).
Despite avoiding defeat in two of their last three meetings with Killie, the visitors head into this tie as 15/4 (Bet 365) underdogs while the draw in normal time is trading at 14/5 (Bet 365).
Betting Angles
Kilmarnock are worthy favourites on Wednesday night but I suspect this clash could be closer than the odds suggest so I'm going to highlight an alternative offering.
We can get some 10/11 with Bet 365 by backing both teams to score and that looks like an enticing alternative angle of attack.
While Kilmarnock have demonstrated marked improvement under the management of Derek McInnes, their defence isn't the most reliable.
The Rugby Park outfit failed to shut out their opponents in seven of their final eight league games last season, not to mention their backline was breached by lowly Fraserbrugh on Saturday.
Partick's visit will undoubtedly represent a step up in class and they possess some excellent attacking players that have the technical tools to create opportunities in Ayrshire.
That being said, the men from Maryhill could struggle to contain a Killie team that have carried much greater attacking threat since McInnes' took the reins.
Kilmarnock have struck at least once in each of their nine home games under the former Aberdeen boss' watch, scoring twice or more in each of their last seven outings at Rugby Park.
With all this in mind, as well as the fact that BTTS has banked in the last two meetings between the pair, supporting the same play this midweek makes obvious appeal at 10/11 (Bet 365).
