After suffering a setback at Roma last time out, Juventus will be targeting a swift return to winning ways as they host troubled Sampdoria in Serie A on Sunday.
Juventus have generally been in good form lately but suffered a small set back last time out as they were beaten 1-0 by Roma. They bounced back in the Europa League on Thursday, claiming a 1-0 victory over German side Freiburg with Angel Di Maria getting the goal.
After bouncing back swiftly, Juventus will consider the defeat to Roma as a minor blip. Massimiliano Allegri’s men have won seven of their last nine matches across all competitions and remain with an outside chance of selling a Europa League spot as they sit seven points off the top six.
Having been at the capital last time out, Juventus are returning to the Allianz Stadium which has been a fortress in recent times. They have won four of their last five home matches across all competitions and claimed a 4-2 victory over Torino in their previous fixture in front of their fans.
Sampdoria are looking increasingly doomed as the season progresses and are looking almost nailed on for relegation. They have spent much of the campaign in the relegation zone and are currently rooted to the bottom of the table, nine points from safety.
The last victory for Sampdoria came early in January and they travel to the Allianz Stadium winless in their last 10 matches across all competitions. Dejan Stankovic’s men have suffered seven defeats in that run, although they played out a 0-0 draw with Salernitana in their previous Serie A fixture.
Sampdoria have also found things difficult on their recent travels having suffered four defeats in their last five away matches. Goals have also been hard to come by lately as they have failed to score in all four defeats.
How the bookies view it
Juventus have been installed as overwhelming favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 4/11 by bet365. An unlikely victory for Sampdoria is valued at 10/1 by Coral while Unibet is offering odds of 4/1 for a draw.
Recent head to head
Juventus have a dominant record in this fixture and have won eight of the last nine matches with Sampdoria. The reverse fixture back in August ended in a 0-0 draw while Juventus ran out 4-1 winners in the last meeting at the Allianz Stadium.
Players to watch
Juventus’ rear-guard has been key in their recent good form with centre-back Bremer playing a pivotal role at the heart of the defence. With Sampdoria failing to score in four of their last five away matches, they will be targeting a clean sheet at 4/6 with Betfred.
At the other end of the pitch, Dusan Vlahovic remains the top scorer for Juventus with eight goals and is priced at 7/5 by bet365 to find the net on Sunday. Angel Di Maria could also be worth keeping an eye on at 11/4 with bet365 having scored five goals in his last five matches across all competitions.
Anything else catch the eye?
With Sampdoria struggling for goals on their travels, Juventus will be targeting a win to nil at evens with BetVictor. Given the one-sided results in the last meeting at the Allianz Stadium, a -1 handicap can also be considered at 21/20 with Coral.
Juventus scored in both halves in their last home fixture in Serie A and can be set for a repeat at 13/10 with BoyleSports.
