Juventus vs Genoa

, KO: 14:00 Apr 11, 2021, Allianz Stadium
Genoa

Juventus are hoping to keep alive their fading title defence as they host Genoa in an Italian Serie A clash at the Allianz Stadium. They will be banking on their solid home form and should have the edge over the visitors.

The Bianconeri bounced back from a mini slump to claim a 2-1 victory over Napoli in midweek. Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Paolo Dybala gave them a two-goal lead before Napoli pulled one back late in the contest.

Andrea Pirlo’s men are now 12 points behind leaders Inter Milan and need to continue winning to keep alive their title hopes. However, they must also keep looking over their shoulder with fast rising Atalanta and Napoli providing a genuine threat to their Champions League position.

It has been a season to forget for Juventus but despite all their problems, they have maintained a solid record at the Allianz Stadium. They have won eight of their last nine home matches claiming a 3-1 victory over Lazio and also beating Roma 2-1 in that run.

Genoa were held to a 1-1 home draw by Fiorentina in their previous Serie A fixture. Mattia Destro opened the scoring early in the first half but they were quickly pegged back by the visitors.

Davide Ballardini’s men have been out of sorts in recent weeks with just one win in their last eight Serie A matches. That poor run has seen them drop to 13th on the table, although they are 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Genoa have also struggled on their travels with two defeats in their last three away matches. They lost 3-0 to Inter Milan before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Roma.

How the bookies view it

Juventus are considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies and are priced at 5/18 by SBK to win. A victory for Genoa is valued at 13/1 by Vbet while a draw is valued at 11/2 by bet365.

With Juventus likely to take confidence from their win against Napoli, I am backing a comfortable home win here.

Head to head

Juventus have a solid record in this fixture with 23 wins from 35 previous matches. Genoa have claimed just four victories while both teams have played out eight draws.

The Old Lady claimed a 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in December and also knocked Genoa our of this year’s Coppa Italia.

Players to watch

Cristiano Ronaldo continues to lead the line for Juventus and scored his 25th Serie A goal of the season last time out. The Portugal forward has grabbed the opening goal nine times this season and is priced at 2/1 by bet365 to score first on Sunday.

Veteran striker Mattia Destro has been the star for Genoa this season with 10 Serie A goals to his name. He is priced at 10/3 by bet365 to score anytime.
