Hamilton Academical vs Partick Thistle

, KO: 19:45 Oct 15, 2021, Fountain of Youth Stadium
Partick Thistle

FRIDAY night football in the Scottish Championship comes from the Fountain of Youth Stadium as Hamilton Academical play host to Partick Thistle.

It has been a tricky opening stretch to life back in the second tier for Hamilton following their relegation from the Scottish Premiership at the end of last season.

Accies, in eighth spot, with just two wins from eight outings so far, have already seen a change of management, with Stuart Taylor replacing Brian Rice back in August.

But there are signs the tide is starting to turn after Hamilton ended Inverness' unbeaten start to the campaign with a 2-1 win over the league leaders last time out.

Meanwhile, Partick Thistle's strong start to the season had been slowed by a trio of defeats, all of which came against three of the current top-four sides in the standings.

However, Ian McCall's men will head to Hamilton in high spirits after snapping their three-match winless streak in style with a thumping 4-0 over Ayr United at Firhill a fortnight ago

Outright Betting

The bookies are finding it hard to separate the teams with Hamilton narrow outsiders at 16/9 (SBK) while the stalemate has been chalked up at 9/4 (SBK) with the same firm.

Despite slumping to defeat in each of their last three Scottish Championship road trips, Partick Thistle make the short trip to South Lanarkshire as slight 31/21 (SBK) favourites.

Betting Angles

I'm hopeful an exciting clash could be in the offing at the Fountain of Youth Stadium with over one Partick Thistle goal making appeal at 6/5 with Bet 365.

The Jags have been the great entertainers of the second tier this season, with their opening eight league fixtures producing no fewer than 30 match goals.

During that sample, the men from Maryhill have made the bulge 17 times, notching up two or more strikes on five occasions – a tally only bettered by high-flying Arbroath.

Hosts Hamilton, on the other hand, have earned the unenviable tag as the leakiest defence in the division, shipping 15 goals across their opening eight league games of the season, posting a paltry one clean sheet in the process.

Partick Thistle Goal

The defensive frailty that has hampered Hamilton's start to the season could rear its head on Friday night in a fixture that pits the Scottish Championship's worst defensive record against the division's most potent attack.

With all that in mind, I'll happily snap up the 6/5 (Bet 365) on offer for Partick Thistle to score two or more goals in South Lanarkshire

Dipping into the Asian goal line we can see it set at 2.5, 3.0 and I'm more than happy to have a nibble on the overs at 11/10 with Bet 365.

Here we would only lose money if there are zero, one or two goals scored in the match and that makes plenty of appeal given that five of Thistle's eight league matches this season have crossed the over 3.5 goal barrier.
