FRANCE host Luxembourg in an international friendly on Wednesday as they continue their preparations for Euro 2024.
Luxembourg have shown some quality lately but should still be no match for the French, who are expected to ease to a comfortable victory.
France's path to Euro 2024 was fairly straightforward as they won seven of their eight matches and finished top of Group B.
They head into Wednesday’s clash off the back of a 3-2 victory over Chile in a friendly back in March.
The victory over Luxembourg extends a long run of friendly victories for France, who have only been beaten by Germany in recent times. Didier Deschamps’ men have won six of their last eight international friendlies.
Luxembourg are not going to the European Championship but their performances during the qualifiers showed plenty of improvement in their footballing status.
They claimed five wins from 10 matches and finished above Iceland and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Luc Holz’s men travel to France after a 2-1 victory over Kazakhstan in an international friendly in March. However, that was their first friendly victory since 2019, and they also failed to score in three of the last four matches during that run.
How the bookies view it: France too strong
France are considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 1/33 by bet365. An unlikely victory for Luxembourg is valued at 50/1 while a draw is set at odds of 18/1.
Head to head: No answers for France
France have never lost to Luxembourg, with 14 wins and a draw from 15 previous matches. The last meeting between both teams was a 0-0 draw during the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
Players to watch: Unstoppable Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe often carries the attacking threat for France and will be the one to watch on Wednesday. The PSG forward has eight goals in his last 10 matches for the national team and is priced at 2/5 by bet365 to score anytime.
Olivier Giroud could also be worth keeping an eye on for France as he approaches the end of his career with the national team. The striker has three goals in his last four international appearances and is priced at 4/5 by bet365 to find the net on Wednesday.
Probable line-ups
While Mbappe and Giroud are expected to feature, France are likely to give some of the fringe players run-out on Wednesday. The likes of Dayot Upamecano, William Saliba and Youssouf Fofana could be in line to start.
Luxembourg are likely to stick with much of the team that featured in the win over Kazakhstan back in March.
France: Maignan, Clauss, Saliba, Upamecano, Hernandez, Kante, Rabiot, Fofana, Dembele, Giroud, Mbappe
Luxembourg: Moris, Carlson, Chanot, Mahmutovic, Jans, Bohnert, Martins, Olesen, Thill, Sinani, Rodrigues
Anything else catch the eye?
France will be keen to exert their dominance on Wednesday and could seek a heavy victory. They could be backed in the -3 handicap at 10/11 with bet365, who is also offering odds of 20/21 for a -2 first half handicap.
With Mbappe often the most lethal attacking threat for France, the forward could be backed to score first at 2/1 with bet365.
