ENGLAND will look to reach their second consecutive Euros semi-final on Saturday when they take on Switzerland in Dusseldorf.
The Three Lions haven't been at their best during the tournament so far but they are now just two wins away from the final and with a change of formation on the horizon, who is to say things can't turn around for Gareth Southgate?
To get past Switzerland, they will need to improve considerably. The Swiss have been one of the best-performing teams at Euro 2024 and swept Itlay aside in the Round of 16 last weekend.
They downed the holders last week, can they do the same to the pre-tournament favourites?
How the bookies view it: England remain favourites
Despite England performing poorly in all four of their matches at Euro 2024, the bookies still have them as favourites to come through this match and make it to the semi-finals. An England win inside 90 minutes is priced at 6/5 with Betfred while a Switzerland victory is priced at 3/1. If you think England will need extra time again, then the draw can be had at 2/1.
Recent head-to-head: English dominance
Although Switzerland are in better form coming into the match, they are fighting against history and a miserable record against the Three Lions. They have only ever beaten England on three occasions and two of those came in the 1940s. England are unbeaten in their last 13 matches against Switzerland, a run that stretches back to 1988.
Players to watch: Hey Jude
Jude Bellingham has escaped suspension after making a crude gesture during the match against Slovakia so the Real Madrid midfielder will line up for England once again on Saturday evening.
His last-minute overhead kick kept England's tournament alive against Slovakia and he said afterwards that he writes his own scripts. Well, if that's the case, then we can expect more heroics from the 21-year-old in Dusseldorf given that he has now well and truly established himself as England's talisman.
Like most of the squad, Bellingham hasn't performed at his best so far at the tournament but he has still popped up with two important goals for his country. Without those two strikes, England would already be back home and Gareth Southgate would be out of a job.
Predicted lineups
If rumours are correct, then England will line up with a new formation for this one. Gareth Southgate is reportedly going to switch to a 3-5-2 for this one in a bid to spring his talented but underperforming squad into life. Marc Guehi misses out due to suspension.
Switzerland have a full squad to choose from for this one with Silvan Widmer returning following his suspension. Widmer may have to settle for a place on the bench, though, after Dan Ndoye's impressive performance against Italy.
England: Pickford – Walker, Stones, Konsa – Alexander-Arnold, Rice, Mainoo, Saka – Foden, Bellingham – Kane
Switzerland: Sommer – Schar, Rodriguez, Akanji – Rieder, Xhaka, Freuler, Aebischer – Ndoye, Vargas – Embolo
Anything else catch the eye?
England are yet to score more than one goal at the tournament and it remains to be seen whether a change in formation will magically fix that problem. Given Switzerland haven't conceded more than one goal in any of their matches at Euro 2024, our hunch says no, it won't. England to score under 1.5 goals against Switzerland is priced at 4/9 with Betfred.
Betfred boosted odds for England vs Switzerland
With the match nearing its kickoff, Betfred offers a few interesting price boosts that you can take advantage of, so let's check them out.
The first couple of boosts are for Anytime Goalscorer market and we have Harry Kane going from 7/4 to 2/1 and Breel-Donald Embolo going from 10/3 to 4/1. Both of these bets include goals scored in Extra Time too. The odds for Embolo to score anytime have jumped more, but Kane's chances of scoring are better and thus might be the more prudent bet, even if the price boost isn't as big.
In addition to these boosts, Betfred also provides a #PickYourPunt Builder Boosts, offering a better price on pre-selected bet builders from their site:
- Harry Kane To Score, Breel Embolo 1+ Shots On Target & Jude Bellingham 1+ Fouls Committed: 6/1>>7/1
- England To Win To Nil, Phil Foden 1+ Shots On Target & Switzerland 4+ Corners: 7/1>>8/1
