England vs Germany
, KO: 17:00 Jul 31, 2022, WembleyENGLAND expects once again with the Lionesses just one step from Euro 2022 glory as they gear up for a Wembley final with old enemies Germany.
A major honour has thus far eluded England's women's side but they'll never get a better chance to get over the final hurdle than a showdown on home soil with a capacity crowd roaring them on.
Sarah Wiegman's side were hugely impressive as they crushed Sweden 4-0 in the semis, justifying the faith our man Slips Tips who cashed in with another bet builder.
I backed England to win the Euros before a ball was kicked after some impressive friendly results and they head into the final having chalked up 11 consecutive victories.
But the Germans have also been a machine since the start of the tournament, winning all their games and conceding just once in their march to the Wembley showpiece.
That goal was conceded in their semi-final win over France and it was good news again for Slips Tips after he backed BTTS at evens.
Unlike England, the Germans know exactly what it takes to win the big prizes, having scooped a record eight European crowns and in addition to Olympic gold and two World Cups.
They will be hoping that experience, plus the weight of expectation on the shoulders of Wiegman and her players, will help them ruin the big Wembley party.
How the bookies view it
England are favourites and McBookie make them 4/5 to lift the trophy with Germany just a little bigger at evens. For a win without extra time or penalties. the Lionesses are 18/11 at SBK while William Hill have the Germans at 2/1. The draw at 90 minutes pays 23/10 at SBK.
Head to head
England won 3-1 in Wolverhampton when these teams last faced off in February (below) in the Arnold Clark Cup but their record in this fixture is dismal. In 27 meetings the Lionesses have won just twice, with Germany coming out on top 21 times.
Players to watch
Wiegman might be tempted to start with super sub Alessia Russo after her stunning backheel goal in the win over Sweden made it four for the tournament. Russo is 11/4 at Paddy Power for anytime scorer and I like the 7/1 on offer at the same firm for her to be last goalscorer given she might come off the bench again.
It's hard to look past skipper Alexandra Popp for a Germany goal after a double against France took her tally to six for the tournament. The striker is 5/2 at SkyBet for anytime scorer and 13/2 with the same firm to break the deadlock.
Anything else catch the eye?
With so much at stake it could be a cagey game and the half-time draw looks a good option at 11/10 with William Hill. Backing most goals to come after the break also appeals at 11/10 with McBookie. The same firm also price a one-goal winning margin for either side at 5/4 and that's another good option.
England's opponents won the most corners in both the quarter-final and the semi-final so the 59/50 Unibet offer on Germany for most corners looks decent.
