Dundee vs Hibernian

, KO: 17:45 Nov 23, 2024, Dens Park
Hibernian

HIBS handed a stay of execution to under-pressure manager David Gray during the international break, but surely another defeat in Dundee on Saturday night could end his tenure.

The capital side find themselves bottom of the Premiership – actually a disgraceful position to be in given both the size of the club and the influx of finance they received after a takeover led by Bournemouth owner Bill Foley.

And their fans are monumentally cheesed off after a dismal campaign that's seen them collect just one win all season in the league from their opening 12 games…and that was eight games ago.

They face a Dundee side who have been too inconsistent this season and are on a poor run of form themselves. Last week's 4-1 defeat at Aberdeen saw that run stretch to two wins in their last 11 games in all competitions.

They have managed to win at Motherwell and defeat an in-form Kilmarnock team, but have also lost to the likes of St Johnstone and Ross County.

They remain an entertaining watch, but manager Tony Docherty would be happier with more points on the board, with Hibs able to move to within a point of them with a win.

How the bookies view it: Hibs retain bookies' faith

Despite being rock bottom of the league, Hibs remain favouritism here at 6/4 general across the board. Dundee can be backed at 7/4 with bet365 and the draw is 5/2 with William Hill.

Recent head to heads: Dundee due a win

The sides met in an entertaining clash in Leith back in August which ended in a 2-2 draw. Hibs won 2-1 twice last season and the other game was goalless.

Players to watch: Murray the man

Simon Murray missed a penalty against Aberdeen last week, but was still able to put it behind him and score. The former Hibs striker is 11/5 to score anytime with bet365.

Martin Boyle has never quite recaptured his form from his first spell at Hibs but the ex-Dundee star has still managed to net five goals this season, although one of those was against his former club He is 12/5 to score anytime with Betfred.

Predicted line-ups:

Dundee could be without Julien Vetro, Trevor Carson, Scott Fraser and Joe Shaughnessy.

Hibs welcome back Mykola Kuharevich after a suspension and Lewis Miller, but Scotland Under 21s striker Kieron Bowie is still out.

Dundee: McCracken, Robertson, Portales, McGhee, Mulligan, Cameron, Adewumi, Murray, Larkeche, Palmer-Houlden, Sylla.

Hibernian: Bursik, Cadden, Ekpiteta, O'Hora, Obita, Kwon, Newell, Triantis, Boyle, Gayle, Hoilett.

Anything else catch the eye?

Dundee look too big here against a Hibs side who must be bereft of confidence. There's very little indeed that would justify Hibs' favouritism.

The Dens Park side are inconsistent as stated, but on their day they are one of the better attacking teams in the league and they will relish having a go at the fragility of this Hibs team.

Neither side are defensively strong and there are big equation marks against both keepers, so expect goals here, A repeat of that over 3.5 goals game in August is 12/5 with UniBet.
