Brentford vs Tottenham Hotspur

, KO: 14:00 Feb 2, 2025, GTech Stadium
Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham's horror slump has left them looking nervously over their shoulder at the Premier League drop zone and another defeat on the road at Brentford would set alarm bells ringing.

The bookies reckons Spurs are too good to go down as they're priced at 66/1 for the drop, despite taking just one point from their last seven games in the league.

The latest setback was the most alarming as a Leicester side who had lost their last seven Premier League matches came from behind to claim a 2-1 win in London on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou was already leading the market for next top-flight gaffer to be sacked and I thought the axe would come down after such a dismal result.

He was still in the dugout for Thursday's Europa League's win over Elfsborg but if Spurs keep losing domestic games it's hard to see him surviving much longer.

Brentford is a tough place to go when you're looking to spark a revival, with Bees seven points better off than Tottenham and a picture of stability under Thomas Frank.

The Dane has his team well organised and they have the pace and power in attack to take advantage of the gaps Spurs leave in their defence.

How the bookies view it: Bees good value at odds-against

I thought Brentford might be odds-on for this one with Spurs in such disarray but they're 21/20 with BoyleSports and that looks well worth a punt. Tottenham are 21/10 outsiders and the draw pays 14/5.

Recent head to head: Jinx in Brentford's armour

Tottenham Hotspur have been a bogey team for Brentford, with the Bees winning just one of the last 18 meetings. But the last four meetings at Brentford's home have all ended level, including a 2-2 thriller when Spurs last came calling.

Players to watch: Bryan back for more

Bryan Mbeumo has enjoyed playing against Spurs in the last few seasons, with the Brentford striker netting four times in this fixture. The Cameroonian is on 14 goals for the season so looks good value at 11/10 with BoyleSports for anytime scorer.

Richarlison's injury against Leicester was another big blow for Spurs with the Brazilian only just returning from injury. Skipper Son Heung-min will need to step up for his team with so many key men out and the Korean is 15/8 to grab a goal.

Probable line ups

Richarlison and Radu Dragusin have joined a Spurs injury list that is now so big it makes up an entire team. Keeper Guglielmo Vicario is still out along with stoppers Djed Spence, Micky van de Ven , Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie. Further forward, James Maddison, Wilson Odobert, Timo Werner, Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson missed the loss to Leicester, although Maddison could return here.

Brentford also have plenty of players injured, with Josh Dasilva, Aaron Hickey, Kevin Schade, Ethan Pinnock, Igor Thiago, Gustavo Nunes, Rico Henry and Christian Norgaard either crocked or doubtful.

Brentford: Flekken, van den Berg, Collins, Lewis-Potter, Roerslev, Jensen, Yarmoliuk, Damsgaard, Janelt, Mbuemo, Wissa.

Tottenham Hotspur: Kinsky, Gray, Davies, Sar, Porro, Bissouma, Maddison, Bergvall, Kulusevski, Moore, Son.

Anything else catch the eye?

With Tottenham so depleted in defence, Brentford's sharp attackers could get a bit of joy. Over 1.5 Bees goals pays just 1/2 at BoyleSports but backing them to score in both halves is a lot better at 5/4.

We saw 13 corners when these teams faced off in London earlier in the season, with nine of them going to Spurs, so that's another market worth looking at. You have to go to over 12.5 corners to get to 13/10 with BoyleSports but I'm more drawn to Tottenham -0.5 in the corner handicap at 7/5.
