Crystal Palace go in search of their first win in 2023 as they travel to Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday. The Eagles are mostly poor on their travels and should find things difficult against Brentford, who often do their best work at home.
Brentford are unbeaten in their last 10 matches, a run stretching back to October. That fine run has put them in contention for a European finish and they are now five points behind fifth placed Tottenham Hotspur.
The Bees have developed a stubborn streak in recent weeks and showed it in their 1-1 draw with Arsenal last time out. They conceded first but wasted no time in drawing level with Ivan Toney getting the equaliser midway through the second half.
The Gtech Community Stadium has been a good hunting ground for Brentford all season and they are unbeaten in their last seven matches in front of their fans. Thomas Frank’s men have won their last three home matches, a run that includes a 3-1 victory over Liverpool.
Crystal Palace are still seeking their first victory of 2023 with their winless run now extended to seven matches across all competitions. While they still hold a healthy lead above the relegation zone, a swift turnaround in fortunes is required.
The Eagles were held to a 0-0 home draw by Brighton & Hove Albion in their previous Premier League fixture. They fought back from behind with James Tomkins getting the equaliser six minutes after the Seagulls had taken the lead.
Among the problems for Crystal Palace is a poor record on the road where they have claimed just one win from their last four away matches. Patrick Vieira’s men have suffered three defeats in that run, including a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in their previous fixture on the road.
How the bookies view it
Brentford have the upper hand among the bookies and are priced at 10/11 by bet365 to claim the win. A victory for Crystal Palace is valued at 18/5 by SBK while a draw is set at odds of 5/2 by William Hill.
Head to head
There have been only four previous meetings between Brentford and Crystal with the Bees claiming one win in 2014 while the other three fixtures have ended in draws. Both teams battled to a 1-1 scoreline in the reverse fixture back in August.
Players to watch
Ivan Toney was back among the goals last time out at Arsenal after a short dry spell and remains the one to watch for Brentford. The striker now has 14 Premier League goals this season and is priced at 31/20 by Unibet to find the net in Saturday.
With Wilfried Zaha still rated as doubtful, Crystal Palace do not appear to have a major goal threat. However, attacker Michael Olise has shown some prowess from set pieces and could be worth keeping an eye on at 7/1 with Unibet.
Anything else catch the eye?
Both teams were on target in the reverse fixture and could be set for a similar outcome at evens with Unibet. There have been over 2.5 goals in three of Brentford’s last four home matches and a repeat is priced at 11/10 with BetVictor while over 3.5 goals is valued at 14/5 by Paddy Power.
Brentford have scored in both halves in their last four home matches and Saturday’s clash can be tipped to follow a similar pattern at 9/4 with bet365.
