Bayern Munich continue their pursuit of leaders Bayer Leverkusen as they host RB Leipzig in a Bundesliga fixture on Saturday. The champions have found things difficult lately but should bounce back against Leipzig, who are not particularly convincing on their travels.
Bayern Munich are in the unfamiliar position of playing catch-up in the Bundesliga as they sit eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen on the standings. They have lost their last three matches across all competitions, a run that includes a 3-0 hammering at Leverkusen and a 3-2 defeat to Bochum in their previous fixture.
That run of poor results means Bayern Munich have announced that manager Thomas Tuchel will be leaving the club at the end of the season. The search for a new manager is underway with Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso top of the list for the Bavarians.
Tuchel still needs to see out the season and the positive for Bayern Munich is that their recent run of defeats have come on their travels. They remain solid at the Allianz Arena and are unbeaten in 14 of their last 15 home matches, claiming 11 wins in that run.
While Bayern Munich are attempting to chase down the leaders, RB Leipzig are pushing for a top four finish. They are currently fifth on the table, just one point behind fourth placed Borussia Dortmund.
Things have not been particularly smooth for RB Leipzig, who have picked up just two wins from their last seven matches across all competitions. They did claim a 2-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach last time out in the Bundesliga with Xavi Simons and Lois Openda getting the goals.
Another problem for RB Leipzig ahead of the trip to the Allianz Arena is that they have found things difficult on their travels. Marco Rose’s men have won just one of their last six away matches but played out a 2-2 draw with Augsburg in their previous fixture on the road.
How the bookies view it
Despite their recent troubles, Bayern Munich are still considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies at 7/10 with Coral. A victory for RB Leipzig is valued at 18/5 by Unibet while a draw is set at odds of 7/2 by BetVictor.
Head to head
Bayern Munich have a 10-3 advantage with six draws from 19 previous matches against RB Leipzig. However, Leipzig are unbeaten in two meetings with the Bavarians this season, claiming a 3-1 victory in the German Super Cup before a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture back in September.
Players to watch
In the midst of Bayern Munich’s recent struggles, Harry Kane continues to impress and has now scored 25 Bundesliga goals this season. The striker was also on target in the reverse fixture and is priced at 10/13 by Unibet to get on the score sheet once again.
RB Leipzig have a prolific forward of their own, with Lois Openda scoring 16 Bundesliga goals so far. The Colombian opened the scoring in the reverse fixture and is priced at 7/4 by bet365 to find the net on Saturday.
Anything else catch the eye?
Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig often serve up high scoring encounters and Saturday’s fixture should be no different. Over 4.5 goals is valued at 13/5 with Paddy Power while BetVictor is offering odds of 11/10 for over 3.5 goals.
The Bavarians scored in both halves in their previous home fixture and a repeat is priced at 23/20 with BoyleSports. Given the minimal odds for a straight home victory, a win and both teams to score could be considered at 7/4 with William Hill.
