BARCELONA will aim to rediscover their La Liga winning touch on the weekend. After going winless in two, they have seen their lead at the top cut. Here we preview the Barcelona vs Las Palmas La Liga fixture on Saturday, November 30th.
How the bookies view it: Barca odds-on favourites
Barcelona are the 1/7 odds-on favourites at the Nou Camp to get three points in the bag on the weekend. The Catalans take a four-point lead at the top of the table into the match but have taken one point only from their last two. Las Palmas are struggling just above the drop zone and are not expected to be a big threat as 14/1 outsiders.
Recent head-to-head: Barca defends unbeaten record
From twelve previous league meetings, Barcelona hold an unbeaten W9 D3 record against Las Palmas. Last season’s meetings were both close affairs, the Catalans triumphing in both by just a one-goal margin. Each of their last three wins over Las Palmas at the Nou Camp have been with a clean sheet. Home and away, they have won seven of the last eight clashes, which supports the pre-match odds heavily in favour of another Barca win.
Players to watch: Look for Yamal’s return
After an injury absence, young sensation Lamine Yamal is expected to take part on Saturday. If he’s fit then he’s likely to be in from the start and will be keen to make an impression on his first game back. Yamal is a 5/4 all-time goalscorer option.
Robert Lewandowski is of course the big favourite in all goalscorer betting markets for the game. Raphinha is red-hot in front of goal at the moment, and he got on the scoresheet in last season’s away win at Las Palmas. The Brazilian offers much better value in the goalscorer markets than Lewandowski.
Despite their lowly position, Las Palmas aren’t without their goal-scoring threats. Both Fabio Silva and Alberto Moleiro have four goals each to their name in the league. But still, overall Las Palmas have scored less than half as many La Liga goals as Barcelona this season.
Predicted Lineups
Barcelona are not at full strength, with Ronald Araujo, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Andreas Christensen and Ansu Fati still sidelined, along with the now-suspended Casado. Gavi and Ferran Torres are also still getting back to full fitness. Las Palmas don’t have any reported injury problems.
Barcelona: Pena; Kounde, Cubarsi, I Martinez, Balde; De Jong, Pedri; Yamal, Olmo, Raphinha; Lewandowski
Las Palmas: Cillessen; Rozada, Suarez, McKenna, Munoz; Essugo, Campana; Sandro, K Rodriguez, Fuster; F Silva
Anything else catches the eye?
Barcelona have won all five home fixtures this season, but they have shipped one goal exactly in each of their last two on home turf in victories over Sevilla and Espanyol. So it may just be worth coupling the Barcelona victory with both teams to score.
Barca have averaged more than three goals per home game this season, and have conceded just three goals in total. So a wider margin than last season’s wins over Las Palmas can be looked at and the Catalans are playing a much more attack-minded game under Hansi Flick this term.
Las Palmas have recorded a W2 L5 away record this season in the top flight. The two wins that they did earn on their travels happened against teams in the bottom half of the table. In their three road games against teams currently in the top eight, they have lost while conceding at least two goals in each.
