Atletico Madrid will take on Leganes on Sunday, 20 October in a match that will have an impact on both ends of the La Liga table.
The hosts are currently at the top end of the league table and while they are unbeaten so far this season, too many draws have left them trailing Barcelona in top spot by seven points.
Leganes, meanwhile, currently sit just outside of the relegation zone but considering they are a newly promoted team, they would have been expecting to be embroiled in a relegation battle this season.
How the bookies view it: The hosts start as firm favourites
Atletico Madrid are the favourites for this one which isn't a huge shock given that they are yet to lose a match domestically this season. Betfred have priced a win for Atletico Madrid at 1/3 while a win for Leganes has been priced at 10/1. The draw, which would be a damaging result for the hosts, has been priced at 18/5.
Recent head-to-head: Advantage Atletico
This is a fixture that has been very kind to Atletico Madrid over the years which will fill them with confidence ahead of kick-off on Sunday. Atletico have won seven of the 12 meetings between the two clubs since the turn of the century while Leganes have only defeated the Madrid club once.
The last meeting between Atletico Madrid and Leganes came in 2020 when the two teams played out a 0-0 draw at the Metropolitano.
Players to watch: Can Atletico's forwards kick into gear?
So far, Atletico's good start to the season has been built around a rock-solid defence which has always been the foundation that Diego Simeone has built his teams in Madrid around. However, when you spend more than £100m on new forwards in the transfer window there is an expectation that more goals will be on the way.
Julian Alvarez was the club's biggest signing this summer when he moved from Manchester City for £75m but he hasn't scored as many goals as anyone would have hoped. He is currently on three for the season but he did net during the international break for Argentina so he will carry some momentum into this one.
The fact that Leganes' top scorer, Juan Cruz, is on the same tally as Alvarez tells its own story. The 24-year-old only managed four in La Liga 2 last season and could match that tally with a strike against Atletico on Sunday.
Predicted line-ups
Atletico Madrid will be without three players for this one with Cesar Azpilicueta, Robin Le Normand and Marcos Llorente all out injured. Leganes are in a stronger position with Renato Tapia and Matija Nastasic both set to return from recent niggles. Naim Garcia remains a doubt.
Atletico Madrid: Oblak – Molina, Witsel, Gimenez, Lenglet, Lino – De Paul, Koke, Gallagher – Griezmann, Alvarez
Leganes: Dmitrovic – Rosier, Saenz, Gonzalez, Hernandez – Cisse Neyou – Cruz, Lopez, Alti – De la Fuente
Anything else catch the eye?
None of Atletico Madrid's last four matches have produced more than two goals while only one of Leganes' nine league matches have produced more than two goals. Under 2.5 goals to be scored on Sunday has been priced at 4/5 by Betfred.
